Ricky Martin delivers 200 prefab homes to Thailand's tsunami victims

Bangkok, July 28 (DPA) Latin pop singer Ricky Martin returned to Thailand's tsunami-hit region Thursday to present 200 prefabricated houses to victims and promised a year-end concert to mark the anniversary of the disaster.

The Puerto Rican singer delivered the prefabricated houses built by his eponymous charitable foundation to tsunami survivors in the hard-hit southern province of Phang Nga, the Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

On the neighbouring resort island of Phuket, Martin told reporters that he was planning to celebrate his Dec 24 birthday by staging a benefit concert on the island's famed Patong Beach.

"I would like to play a special concert there to lift the spirits of those who still suffer from the devastating tsunami," said Martin, adding that discussions were under way with provincial authorities.

1. Nice guy, this Ricky Martin
And I hope he has a wonderful birthday. Can you imagine if everyone who had his good fortune passed it on?

3. Holy Shit!! I can't stand his "music" and was ready to otherwise
write him off as a fucknob, but HOLY SHIT!!

What a donation! What an incredible gesture!!

Unless, of course, the pre-fab homes are totally proprietary and require the people to only purchase replacements and fixing things and whatnot from Martin's company. That would suck.

4. I get the impression that it's "no strings attached"...
...he's been making a push lately toward humanitarian efforts. As someone who has been smoked repeatedly by the media, I'm sure he's smart enough to not make a less-than-sincere public gesture like this one.

5. I saw him on Oprah a while ago
talking about the tsunami and his charity work. He stated that he has no further plans to go back into music since he felt that he had enough money for a few lifetimes and preferred to give what he could to others.
I hate his music but after seeing his interview I couldn't help but not like him as a person.

6. That is pretty cool!
Wish that more rich people would do such things. And sadly, it seems that only liberals do such things, while the republicans ones horde their money and piss and moan about the homersexual agenda but do nothing to relieve suffering out of their own pockets.

8. Yep. I can't imagine "George W. Bush's Habitat For Humanity"
I'm sure he'll leave office, get high, get a few Board of Director positions from Halliburton and The Carlyle Group in which he's paid to do nothing except lend his name, get high, have Karen Hughes ghost write another book, get high, dedicate his "presidential library" even though he never reads, get high, live a selfish damned life, get high and leave his blood money to his two slacker daughters.
