refrigerator makers to avoid

1. My washing machine sucks...Whirlpool.

Piece of garbage. 2 years old and has already cost $200 in repairs.

or Fort Smith. I know they made Air Conditioners, Microwaves and refrigerators at the Evansville plant, back when I lived there.

18. We had a sucky Whirlpool washer too

and a sucky Whirlpool dishwasher. It had a meltdown. Got stuck in the dry cycle. We came home and smelled our plastic dishes melting. Pretty scary. Now we never run the dishwasher unless we are home.

We also called Whirlpool because the dishwasher was only two years old. They were no help.

So no more Whirlpools at our house.

All of my Kenmore appliances are great quality...don't seem to have the "built-in obsolesence" of appliances made by other manufacturers.

I have a five-year-old fridge that has given me no problems...a 20 year old washer/dryer set that also function like the day I bought them. And my range works without a glitch, too. I buy only Kenmore appliances.

I've never had a Kenmore fail.

I forget who mkaes Kenmore fridges, Might be Fridgidaire. I'm sure you can find-out on-line.

The place I'm in now has all new Fridgidaire appliances, and so far, so good. And this fridge is the quietest on I've ever owned.

4. What I learned just a few days ago....Maytag makes Amana, GE, some Sears.

LG makes LG and some Sears Kenmores. LG makes practically everything Maytag doesn't make.

All of them incorporate parts from each other, so that each one is a hodgepodge. One out of 3 are defective somehow. If you really take care of them, they may last 10 years, but don't bet on it!

We finally settled on a Sears 19.7 bottom drawer freezer and it is WONDERFUL for my back. It's nicer than the much more expensive GE or the Amana. It has a nice plastic liner in the drawer, so if some of the frozen stuff leaks or is wet, it doesn't drip onto the bottom of the fridge compartment. It's really an LG in Sears clothing. I think.

8. Don't know. Washers and Dryers, Kenmore.

Mine died last year. Both bought in 1982. Moved 3 times, never had to be serviced. I'm still pissed that I dumped them. They needed $200 worth of repairs but I was given new ones free. My BIL had to break them to get them out of the basement.

11. Kenmore has higher quality control than the actual manufacturers

do for their own stuff..or so I was told by a factory rep from Whirlpool.

Whirlpool makes a lot of stuff for Kenmore, and so does Frigidaire.

My Kenmore stuff has always held up wonderfully well. I plan to replace my refrigerator and dishwasher with Kenmores. Not sure about the stove.
If, by the time I purchase it, Kenmore is making a double oven gas range like the Maytag Gemini, then I will buy the Kenmore.

Although there is a JennAir dual fuel that is almost reasonable and I find myself drooling all over it every time I see it.

Our current (Kenmore)refrigerator is about 25 years old, I think, maybe more. My husband had already had it several years it when we got married. We also had a Kenmore microwave that we bought before our daughter was born,(she is almost 21) and finally just got rid of it this year...it was still working. I just wanted a smaller one.

21. I bought a front-loading Kenmore washing machine........

from the Sears outlet on Front Street here in Kansas City. I love it.

It spins the hell out of the clothes, they are practically dry when I take them out of the washer. I only need to set the dryer for 20 minutes except for the heaviest towels and jeans.

22. They are awesome, plus it only uses maybe 15 gallons of

water, versus 35 or 40 on an agitator type. Clothes are not beat up as much either. I have the most basic one, which meets my needs totally, and fits the space in my laundry area. I am hoping for my dryer to croak so I can replace it with the one that matches the washer.

And QUIET!!! I could stand to have that one in my family room as far as the noise level is concerned. It is wonderful.

They have scratch and dent sales there all the time. You can get a great deal.

24. Avoid any appliance made by GE.

They SUCK. We were stuck with them in a house we bought, and the oven and dishwasher broke shortly after the warranty expired. Each appliance cost us hundreds to fix. :grr:

26. As long as we're talking about product reliability .....

I am still using a refrigerator I bought at J C Penney's (yes, they used to sell major appliances) about 30 years ago, and it's working just fine. It has not required one bit of maintanance in all that time other than cleaning the dust of the coils a couple of times. I'm sure it must have been built by one of the major manufacturers but is has the J C Penney name on it. The only complaint I might possibly have is that when it was built energy effiency was not a big concern even though it doen't seem to run the motor excessively. But as long as it does what I expect of it I'll hang on to it.
