I mean, suppose you did. Would you go back to where you were born, someplace special you've been since that feels like "where you came from?"

Me, I'd go "back" to the San Juan islands in the Pac NW. I sort of spent some time there when I was little, but every time I think of a solid retreat, I think of there.

2. I'd take one step back.
That's where I came from. He's just asked me, well, I was walking and then, back where I came from is a step behind me. Or if he gets persistent, back to my apartment.

4. I was born in Germany
But I've lived all but four years of my life in and around Dayton, Ohio. So if somebody were to say that to me then I would tell them I'm already there.

9. I guess it would be New Jersey
it's the only place I've ever considered home. Since I've never been to my ancestral home (various places in Europe). Honestly nobody has ever said that to me...I guess it has to do with my WASPy appearance.

11. That was a great Red Foxx joke
It went something like, "There are some folks saying that we (blacks) need to be sent back to where we came from. Well, if you're going to send me back home, you'd better send me to St. Louis!"

I loved the man.
