Poll question: Favourite fowl for NOT eating?

Me, I'm partial to quail... they're just so fucking funny, what with their goofy head-bobble, and their little fat bodies.

1. I've had quail before. It's hysterical to eat. It's a miniture version of

a chicken. Little tiny legs and wings. One bite breast meat. Half of a bite high. Once was enough. I love duck. Had it wild and tame. I voted for herons. Pretty to watch. Never saw one in a restaurant.

5. Ducks are very entertaining

I used to live on a half acre in a rural area and had mallard ducks. On one occasion I brought two unhatched eggs into the house from a nest that the mother had abandoned. I hatched them on an electric blanket and out popped a little drake and duck. They followed me around like their mother and would often come into the house by forcing open the back screen door with their beaks when it wasn't closed shut. I lived in a place where robbery was unheard of and I often left my doors unlocked when I went out. I would sometimes come home and be greeted by them in the living room when I came through the front door. I even trained them to fly into the air like helicopters and catch lettuce hearts in their beaks. They love lettuce hearts.

But one day a very strange duck flew into my yard. It was a Muscovy (sp?) duck which I think comes from South America. It had claws and webbed feet that could grasp onto trees branches where it would roost. It was the foulest, most belligerent animal I've ever seen. It would see me across the yard and attack me, flying at my face.

I'm quite partial to my parrot, but this year I saw some hatchling common mergansers. They were just about the cutest chicks I'd ever seen: darling little puffballs!



The ones I saw were even younger than these. :)
