Well I finally saw "Cold Mountain"...YAWN
What a disapointment. The only bright spot in this movie was Renee Zelwigger-totally upstaged Kidman. I'm so glad I didn't pay the money to see this in the theater. Every move was predictable.

3. I saw the movie after I read the book,

and I thought the movie was charming. I never expect anything great, so when it is, I'm impressed. Charming worked for me.

4. I slogged through the whole book waiting for it to get better. The reviews
were so glowing.

But it just got worse and worse and even worse than that.

I couldn't believe how bad it was.

No way am I going to see the movie after reading the book.

5. Agree. The book got such glowing reviews,
but WTF? Perhaps you are too critical because it was supposed to be so great?!
Not literature but I'm no expert either. I'm happy when I'm entertained.

9. No, I'm not hyper critical where books are concerned. I read voraciously.
A book does not have to be great literature for me to enjoy it. A book has to be really incredibly bad for me to pan it.

COLD MOUNTAIN is one of the WORST books I've ever read. Boring, grey in outlook as well as prose. No hope in it and nothing to redeem it at all.

Renee Zellweger was just AWFUL!

7. totally agree.
the fact that zelwigger was the only american actor/actress in the movie was kind of telling of how it was going to rate on the suck-ometer.

honestly, how can you make a movie about the civil war with australians and brits? it kind of blew the suspension of disbelief out of the water for me. the accents were way too smarmy.

8. I was absolutely unimpressed with it.
I saw it in the theater and thought it would never end. And I'm a history buff.

10. My husband and I sat through this
taking turns predicting what would happen and we never got it wrong. I'm not a Nicole Kidman fan anyway...now she's given me another reason to dislike her.

11. to tell the truth
I liked book and movie. Book was better for sure.
I didn't like Nicole Kidman too much but I like Rene Zellweger. She was good in the movie.
