Its crazy i was having a gooid time at a fiaredns house and i made my mom and dad drop me off cause i knew i was getting drunk so i was responsible andthne my dad came to pick me up and i am drunk off my ass and as soon as he puulled int hte driveway to come get us at the house the cops pulled him oveer for left of center which is kinda wieird cause in my town there is no center lines on the road. but anyways my dad was in my car picinkg me up and i was really drunk in the seat next to him and i was uhoping the coop would nt breathlesize me cause id fail and im only 16 and that jjust would nt loolk good on my record.

luckyily he just got a warning and luckily i wasnt driving and i lovae DU...

or to be even slightly under the influence (blow anything but 000 on a breathalyzer) until you are 18.

The drinking age is 21. I'm not sure what the law is for 19 to 21 year olds . . .

but I want to ground you for getting drunk, because that's what parents do. And then I want to talk to your parents about enabling your choice to drink until drunk at such a young age.

I am glad that you didn't drive drunk...really, I am. But parents should discourage their young kids from drinking until drunk.

I really want to rant on this. But I'll keep it to myself. But I wonder--do your parents set any boundaries for you? Are you allowed to stay out as late as you like and drink as much as you want?

I only ask these questions because of the potential problems that alcohol abuse brings.

I know that teens will be teens, and you can't stop a teen from drinking if he or she really wants to...but parents should at least discourage underage drinking. Again, I'm glad your dad drove you to and from the drunk fest. My father wouldn't have allowed me to attend, period.

Parents should be parents, even when taking a stand is painful.

21. When I was a teen

drinking was not the concern to me or my parents. It was mary jane. I believe mary jane impairs one in driving, but the after-affects are better because it keeps one from feeling nauseated.

Having said that, I also think the dad who helped his child is to be commended. My parents allowed some of us to drink in our home under their supervision, as long as the other parents knew, and it was the neighborhood, not others. One time, that was allowed by my parents, and I knew after that, that those under 18 needed more guidance, thus we knew not to allow it.

Today, there are lawsuits to be had.

My wife's parents - who were otherwise rotten parents - used to let my wife have a glass of wine with them at dinner in her mid teens. She wasn't allowed a second drink, but she often had a first.

My parents - who were otherwise very good parents - had a very prohibitive attitude towards drinking. (In my Dad's defense, his father was a horrible alcoholic, and so drinking was not a neutral issue for him.)

My wife never even came close to having a substance abuse problem.

I struggled profoundly with these problems in my youth; it seemed like I was always kicking something or another.

But I agree with you that it's another thing to let your kids get drunk. There is nothing good about drunkeness. On the other hand, I'm not sure total prohibition is a good thing either.

When my kids are in their teens, I will do as my in laws did.
