2. Rear seat center facing backwards (for newborns)
As they get bigger, you turn them around, keeping them in the center. The potential for severe injury from a side impact is so great that you never want to put them on the sides.

4. In someone else's car!
But, seriously, rear center is the placing I hear recommended by parents.

7. In Florida it's the law to put it in the rear seat, BUT
Last summer two toddlers died (in two separate incidents) when their fathers forgot about them and left them in the back seat of their SUVs, where the temperature killed them both. It was so unspeakably horrible and tragic. In the first case, the father was a dentist who forgot about his kid until a relative called later in the day to ask how the child was doing at his daddy's office. He ran screaming into the parking lot to find his son near death, and they could not revive him.

Then it happened again in Florida a few weeks later. I kept thinking it happened because the child was in the back seat and out of sight/out of mind. The law is to put the child in the back seat, but if they were in the front seat, no one would forget they were there.

9. keep the diaper bag
in the front seat next to you, and the babies in the back seat. Don't forget about airbags. Those things and small children should not be close together.

10. Keep them at home at all times
Exposing them to the outside world will only make them pushy.
