I feel old. They've remade the Modern English song "Melt With You"
for the movie "Sky High" (superheroes' kids go to high school -- I think I'll skip that one). But they changed the line "making love with you was never second best" to "being friends with you was never second best." :eyes:

2. oh fuckity fuck FUCK!
It was bad enough when ME redid it for that early 90s album-- NOW somebody else is trashing it?

btw "After the Snow" (the album the original came from) is one of the top ten post-punk albums of all time, IMHO

"hey changed the line 'making love with you was never second best' to 'being friends with you was never second best.'"

6. The worst is hearing Clash, Buzzcocks and 80s New Wave on car ads
and also retail store soundtracks have 80s and early 90s hits. I'm getting old!

7. I know. I find myself explaining to my kids more and more
"Oh, that song was popular when I was in college" (mid-80s)

It's kinda funny.

Sometimes they're surprised when I know the lyrics to a song they like, and I have to explain to the young whippersnappers that I knew it back in the day.

14. My cousin's kids were children during Wayne's World...

...they thought it was 'odd' that their mother knew all the words to Bohemian Rhapsody.

Cracked me up. I learned the lyrics listening to Queen with their mom(my cousin) when I was a pre-teen.

Ah, memories...

;)

I was listening to KaTe Bush earlier and when I heard the lyric

"I'm feeling like a waltz
Growing old
Old old old old"

I thought how true that is...

15. I'm still disturbed that the Dead Kennedy's took Jello to
court so they could use a song for a Levi's ad.

That's so NOT punk. SO WRONG!

18. I never did see that Levi's ad. Did it actually get made?
Hell, I'm still traumatized by the Sex Pistols singing "Route 66" in a Mountain Dew commercial

19. The commercial was made w/a Pretenders song.
Jello talks about it in an interview here.

I feel horrible for him. To have everything you believe in, your art seized so your bandmates can sell out and do the corporate thing.

The Mountain Dew commercial, that was also just wrong...

Why, why, why would they do THAT?

:banghead:

16. Don't feel bad.
I think Modern English re-did it themselves for a movie soundtrack in the 90's.

17. I'm sure the remake sucks, but Modern English killed that song themselves.
...when they sold it to fucking BURGER KING a few years ago.

I think it was the first song of that era to be used in a commercial, and I did feel old when I heard it.

As for the lyrical changes...... what the fuck, is Hillary Duff singing it?
