I'm 24 and I have five friends from my childhood dead already.
Last night, I met up with a friend of mine from high school that I haven't seen in six years. I joined the military right after I graduated, so its pretty suffice to say that other than my best friend that I grew up with, I didn't see anybody.

Well, that friend of mine died unexpectedly from a surgery that had to have him get two neck vertebrae fused, but an artery got punctured and he bled to death on the operating table.

Flashback to last night.

In four seperate events, four friends of mine are dead because of cocaine/heroin overdoses. Nothing is more sad than reading an obituary of a 19 year old friend that excelled in high school and was bound for great things in life.

It's a sad realization to know that I know five people who have been cheated out of living a long fulfilling life.

Seriously. Fuck drugs. Fuck them hard. I must admit, I am a fan of herbal refreshment, but I've never heard of anybody smoking themselves to death. IMO, marijuana isn't really a drug. It's a plant that grows wild. You just don't find pools of heroin around, or beaches made of cocaine.

God damn it.

1. I am sorry :(
:hug::hug:
I know what it is like to lose close friends.
It is especially hard when they are young. I am a year older than you, and it has been 3 1/2 years since my best friend died.
I am so sorry for your losses :(

3. How sad.
I remember when the first childhood friend of mine died. He was the 'bad boy' all through school and died of a drug overdose in college.

4. Drugs is a more serious threat to us than are extremists
We have cut mental health programs, rehab programs, etc.

Yes, we are getting yet another lost generation out there. Now our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are now being infected by the drugs.

Bush's America.

5. FOUR overdoses?
That's a lot.

But I have to say, although "nobody's smoked themselves to death" as you say, how many people have died in car accidents because they don't feel any compunction about smoking a doobie before driving, even though they'd never thing about driving after drinking a couple of shots of Jack?

"Herbal refreshment" does need to have attention paid as well; it's not completely benign.

I hope you're being responsible. We don't want to lose you, too.

6. I'm sorry to hear that....
I work with injectors myself... it is a very sad, very difficult life for both the individual and for loved ones.

7. I am very sorry,
I know how hard it is to lose friends, and when drugs were involved it was even more frustrating and tragic. I lost an old school friend just last Tuesday.

Again, my deepest condolences to you and your friends. I hope you are not alone, and have someone to talk to.

8. Yep. Chicago's rock scene was absolutely ravaged during the '90s.
I went to a few funerals myself. High school friends.

Sorry, man. It gets easier. Do something to honor them.

9. I've done some volunteer work
around Washington a couple years ago, but I only found out about my friends last night. I guess they all died within the 2000-2002 timeframe. Really sucks.
