http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=3767291&mesg_id=3767291This was not a Lounge thread.
Here's the deal. Back when I started here in 2001, GD was nuts but a place where you could reach out and make that human contact. Everyone could just be a DUer, down for the cause, regardless of extracurricular nonsense, whenever anyone opened the floor and asked how people were doing. I must have posted 35 threads in GD just like this, just checking in to let everyone pop off. People got tighter, people saw that they had friends here, people saw that they were not alone.
I start the thread above in GD, and you booted it into the Lounge. I'll bet you a dollar there are mods and Admins who complain about how different DU is than it used to be. No sense of mission, no sense of collective fate, just eight billion brushfires you have to go piss on all day.
Threads like the one above used to hold the place together. It's telling that threads like this now get lobbed into the Lounge. Clue Phone: If any forum on this board needs a stronger sense of fellowship, it is GD. Please don't hinder forum members from making this forum a better place to be, with check-in threads like the one above.
End 'o preaching. And thanks.
