Connery fed up with Hollywood 'idiots'
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=357694&in_page_id=1773

Sir Sean Connery has said he does not want to act in any more movies because he is "fed up with the idiots" now working in Hollywood, it has emerged.
The former James Bond star said in a newspaper interview that he would "need a Mafia-like offer I couldn't refuse" to appear in another film.

The Scot also revealed he had pulled out of a lucrative autobiography deal because the publisher wanted to delve too deeply into his private life.

He said it had cost him a "stonking amount of money" to renege on the contract with ghost-writer Hunter Davies to pen the tell-all book.

"I realised I was going to be spending the best part of my life, and probably the rest of my life, trying to correct these inaccuracies, and I can't be bothered," he said.

======================================================

Excellent, I'm fed up with Connery. He doesn't act anymore, I'm tired of his forced New York Shittay accent, and him boinking Catherine Zeta Jones was less believable than the entirety of the latest Triple XXX with Ice Cube movie.

"S" WORDS

Connery: Ah, I'll take Swords for $400.

Trebek: It’s, actually, not Swords, sir. These are words that begin with "S". The answer is: Popeye is this sort of man.

Connery: Saber.

Trebek: No!

Connery: It began with a bloody "S"!

5. I agree with you.
There's a time to retire, Sean, and I think this is it. You've had a great run, but it's time to hang up the chest wig. Ferheavensakes it looks like velcro...And that whole thing about him being so sexy? I thought that pairing him up with CZJ was not just unbelievable, but creepier than "The Ring."

But not anymore creepier than the real life pairing of Catherine Zeta Jones and old-ass Michael Douglas!

Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 03:07 PM by tjdee
I'd consider Sean Connery long before Michael "shh, I had plastic surgery" Douglas.

I'm fed up with the idiots working in Hollywood too--but you can't really blame them for the League of Extraordinary Gentleman, can you. Actually, I guess you can--with the editing/direction/marketing/PUTTING TOM FUCKING SAWYER IN IT LIKE AMERICANS ARE TOO STUPID TO FOLLOW ALONG UNLESS THERE'S AN AMERICAN IN IT...

Secret Agent Tom Fucking Sawyer. Good God. But, I digress.

I agree with Sean.

21. Good for Connery! We need more artists standing up against the shitiocy
of Hollywood et. al.

And kudos to you, too, Sean, for not putting up with your publisher wanting not an autobiography, but a litany of sins and bad behaviors.

If Connery was so fed up with Hollywood and interested in supporting and improving the art of filmmaking, he could be supporting and working with independent directors and producers. Instead every movie he's made in the past 15 years have been bloated Hollywood pictures with an extra-bloated salary for himself. His latest payday is coming from Electronic Arts - he's voicing James Bond in a VIDEO GAME! He sure sounds like a serious actor to me!

All he seems to want is to remain retired, count his money, and pop his head up every now and then to rant like an old curmudgeon on a park bench. He's lost any respect I had for him, both as an actor and as a person.

30. All this trashing of Sean Connery! Is this intergenerational?
How old is Connery now, 80? Let's say 80. Imagine him saying this to you:

As you are now, so I was once. As I am now, someday you too shall be.

Check in again in about 40, 50, 60 years and tell me what you think of Connery then. Old, selfish fool? Oversexed curmudgeon? Anti-indy big-studio whore? Chances are, Connery said more or less the same things about people when he was younger too and making a name for himself. And chances are, younger actors today will engage in pretty much the same nonsense that Connery is engaging in when it's their turn to wrinkle and watch their hair turn white and fall out. Imagine all those tattoos on dry, wrinkled skin. Dermatologists will make even more of a fortune removing them than they're making now. And the young people then will be commenting, no doubt.

All us old people will be laughing at the human condition, so feel free to join in.

22. This may be one of those "you had to be there" threads
For those of us who were impressionable young lads (and lasses, I guess) in the 60s when Dad and/or Mom (though with me it was usually Dad alone) took us to see the latest James Bond movie, Sean Connery was the epitome of coolness. We wanted his lifestyle, his self-assurance, his wits, his calm no matter what, his wardrobe, and most of all his car and his gadgets. So I guess it's nostalgia at work when we actually care what the aging actor says nowadays. Or maybe it's just a nostalgic reaction to powerful impressions formed in younger days. Icons tend to do that to people, and each generation has its own. If we love ourselves, we tend to love those who helped make us possible, including people like Sean Connery. And if love means never having to say you're sorry, as Ali MacGraw limply blurted out to a sneering Ryan O'Neal in "Love Story" a zillion years ago, love also means never having to forgive someone's bad acting and cradle-robbing trysts with actresses who could call him daddy.

All this is just a long-winded way of saying that if it's Sean Connery one is talking about, I can forgive him just about anything because I looked up to him on the big screen when I was a kid. Nothing to do with right or wrong. I'm just saying it, that's all.

27. I understand completely...
I think we've all admired actors, athletes, and politicians for the same reasons. But you have to look at who the person is now, not who they were 40 years ago.

28. Actors don't make the best social commentators at any age
Sean Connery was probably as much a jerk 40 years ago as now, though to his credit he has done much for the cause of Scottish home rule. I'm not one for celebrity worship, and I don't worship Connery any more than I worship Tom Cruise, for example. But if I had to choose between the two and their comments and behavior, I'd choose Connery in an instant. No one can be what they once were, and I'd be the last person to blame them for it. As long as he's not hurting anyone, he's free to act badly and make a complete fool of himself, even if he negates who he was. It's his life, and if I don't like what he is now, I'll just remember him when. He's not going to change unless he wants to, and he will be remembered for the good he's done unless he really goes off the deep end.

Or maybe that was his interpretation of Bond. I dunno, but either way he is overrated...
