He threw the biggest series in baseball and took money for doing it. That is something that would incite rage amongst baseball fans whether it happened now or then. And he did it as a player. His lifetime ban is justified.

I know that I argue teh Pete Rose SHOULD be in the hall of fame. To many that is hypocritical, but I split hairs on two thing.

1. Gambling on baseball is not as bad as throwing the world series and taking money for doing it, for the sake of gambling.

2. Pete Rose was a manager when he gambled. His transgressions occurred AFTER he complied his statistics.

A case can be made that he helped throw the first 5 games, and when he realized he wasn't going to get the money he was promised he turned that around, but his testimony to the grand jury is that he never threw a game. He wasn't indicted so...

baseball at the time, but as manager he was making decisions that could effect results and thus was just as responsible to follow the rules as if he were playing. For this reason he deserved punishment and the ban is just.

I just think once the statistics have been complied as a player, and you've done everything possible to deserve being in the hall of fame, as a player, you should be admitted.

LIke I said before. What would you do if he had already been admitted when he bet on games as a manager? Would you revoke it?
