I'll ask you all a question first.

How many of you have heard of and/or know me?

21. Yep, mom [teacher's aide] goes back tomorrow.
Orientation Wednesday and school starts with a half day on Thursday.

After school on Thursday, I'm heading down to a local Democratic meeting to meet up with Karen Thurman, chair of the Florida Democratic Party and Rod Smith, candidate for Governor and FL State Senator.

23. Glad to hear that some young people are getting active in politics
We had a Young Democrat Chapter at our high school, but after a while most stopped coming to the meetings; they would only come if we provided food and beverage. My school district is so republican it's disgusting. The Young Rethuglicans are thriving in our school and are quite obnoxious to anyone who thinks differently.

27. Join the club. [no pun intended]
We've got one at my future high school dying, as the myspace group gains more members, while the meetings get less and less of a showing. I hope to recruit some more Dems to show up when I'm there as well as getting my friends politically active.

It's our future after all, ain't it?

29. Indeed, it is your generation's future
Unfortunately, my school district is very wealthy (for the SE) and these people see their future with those who protect the rich; not to mention the fact that it is in a very fundamentalist area, with the type of people who associate their religion with their politics.

The Baptist churches and fundies are all around. Welcome to semi-rural Florida.

I miss New Jersey quite badly. Ironically though our Dem party is surging with our new leader. It's insane. We may just pull of a great upset in the next coming election year.

32. I'm hoping for some victories all around
Bu$h's approval ratings are down, etc. I think many people are becoming aware of how his clique of plutocrats are making the division between rich and poor ever wider.

What I fear the most is that with the lack of recruitment into the military, I just might be recalled (against my will). I'm still within the age limit which is being targeted to return. Everytime we have a career day, the Marines come by to see me, as I used to be one. "We have some great benefits which could help you..." My response, in order to avoid any confrontations, is to tell them that I developed a knee problem, so I probably would not pass the physical. They keep trying though.

And I am now getting targeted for future recruitment. I'm attempting to opt out via a letter to Pentagon and maybe file as a conscientious objector if I am recruited if the Iraq War continues when I am of age.

36. Conscientious objector status is very difficult to obtain
I know for a fact that Quakers have it, but to put forth a legal argument usually does not work. Many of my friends tried this during the Vietnam years and lost. However, they were given non-combatant jobs like medics who are not required to carry weapons. Many believe that such people were targeted when trying to use this route to avoid the war and were intentionally trained as medics and assigned to front-line units as a morbid type of revenge.

Luckily for me I will be out of the targeted age range for recall in one year.

You, as a young person, are a key part of my dream. You are going to be what gets our country back on track so that every person in the world (not just in the United States) has nutritious food, adequate healthcare, and is able to live a safe life. It really wouldn't be that difficult to do if the people of the world had the will to do it. However, first we have to get the US back on track. (i.e., return from the madness that has consumed us for the last 5 years.)

Sadly, it doesn't yet have the "In 2004, 51% of Americans were institutionalized with a disease ironically known as compassionate conservatism. The other 49% were not harmed and worked hard to find a cure for the sick." entry.
