Talk to me about vacuum cleaners.
I think our old Electrolux has gone to the great carpet in the sky. Tell me why I would need a canister vs. an upright (never had a canister). Also give me recommendations. Also I don't want one with expensive bags that I have to keep buying. Bags are okay but don't want to pay a fortune for years to come.

1. I like my dyson.
It's expensive, but I think it's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned - it gets everything extremely clean and never loses suction.

3. my wife just bought a Hoover wind-tunnel upright
after doing all of the consumer reports research and concluding it was the best for the money. she also said the only real benefit to a canister is its better on hard surface floors.

7. O.K. here is the deal
We have had a Hoover, canister, for about 20 years. we believe that if it costs less to fix it than buy a new one, fix the old one. This thing has lasted way beyound what it should have. I keep telling myself that I will buy a new one when this one dies but it just does not die. Buy a Hoover and be prepared to live with it for a very long time.

8. I have a Kenmore Canister with a HEPA filter
I love it! I have two cats and you can only imagine the hair. I like Sears because their vacuums have always lasted a long time for me.

9. I'm sorry I didn't buy a cannister
I also have the upright Wind Tunnel. It does a good job, but there is too much weight to move back and forth on the stem with all the junk on it. The hose attachment is really short, and the pipes fall off the storage rack on the back all the time. Cannisters are much easier.
