AUGHHH! The railroad crossing signal near my place is stuck "on".
It's been "clanging" for over an hour. The worst part is that every car and bus that approaches the signal, stops, waits, realises there's no train, and screeches off indignamtly.

Last time this happened, it took about six hours for a crew to fix it... and I need to go to sleep NOW!!

1. That sucks
in the city where I'm from, we not only have that clanging but there is also a "fake train noise" that blasts from some speakers. If you're the last car to go through before the hands come down, you get the bejeebus scared out of you thinking you're about to be crushed by a train. I can't imagine living near that if it ever got stuck "on".

3. Wow, that's the most stupid idea I've ever heard!
No offense to you, of course.

What genius thought that up? Probably some city Engineer who's brother-in-law probably happens to own an all-waether speaker company and who owns the rights to some train recordings...

2. There often a phone number on the signal box
that can be used to report malfunctions.

4. I know...it's on my fridge, too.
It happesn often, as a result of high winds setting the signals off.

I guess nobody thought that being on a peninsula sticking out into the Pacific Ocean might subject us to the occasional (read: nightly) high wind.

7. IF BY 'AMBIENT NOISE' YOU MEAN ME SMAHSING MY HEAD REPEATEDLY...
...WITH AN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH, THEN, YES, I ALREADY THOUGHT OF THAT.
