11. Yes it is
All the hundreds of times I'd been to NY growing up in New England, I never went to the top of the Trade Center. After moving to California, I took a vacation to NY and decided to do all the touristy things. I'm so glad I did.

My boyfriend at the time could not even stand up there - he walked out the door and sank down onto a bench. I, on the other hand, leaped onto the rail and cried out, "take my picture!". He did, then begged me to get down - I wanted it to be at a point where you can see just how high in the air it was but there were no benches convenient there.

33. Ok, so, there was a good 4 or 5 feet of roof beyond that rail, correct?
Because if you were my beau, and you did that to me and that was -the- edge of WTC, it would be a long time before we talked again.

34. There was a large area round the rail.
The observation deck was in the center of the building, not on the edge of it.

I can still "see" it in mind. Sometimes I can't believe they are gone.

35. I remember my last trip there
Spring 2000 I think. I didn't even like being on the inside of the top floor, where they had those metal seats that were a few steps down and right against the window. The height just creeped me out, too much building of things to go wrong between me and the ground.

69. Yes, there was, jutting out below where I was sitting
But that was one of the things I liked the most, not having my view blocked by tall railings or fence, just a waist-high rail - made you really aware of how high in the air you were.

I love being up in the air, though (used to work on a bridge crew and some of my favorite memories involve high, rickety scaffoldings and narrow I-beams) - it was exhilerating.

I finally got boyfriend to pose near the rail - I think he actually left a mark where he was gripping it. LOL

76. I have travelled extensively in Ecuador
but haven't technically lived there. I have many relatives throughout the country.

Post # 46 is Mount Tungurahua. The town in the foreground is Ban~os. It had to be evacuated in 1999 and almost again in 2003 due to the volcanic activity. I was there many years ago, before Tungurahua's recent flare-ups. It is a beautiful area and one can enter the Amazon region from Ban~os.

Post # 63 is Guagua Pichincha. Quito is literally on the folds of this volcano and got a thin layer of ash during this steam explosion in 1999. The remarkable shot I posted is from the other side. I wasn't there, but let's just say my cousins, aunts and uncles were all in a state of shock, and the city quickly came together for the clean-up.

BTW, Ecuador is also known for earthquake activity, but the patron saint of Quito said that it will be ruined not by volcanoes or earthquakes, but by bad governance!

Post # 49 is the Mitad Del Mundo monument/museum, and the yellow line is supposedly the equator. People like to take their photo straddling the line. Nearby, there is a church with the line going right down the main aisle, as well as a restaurant which seats you in the hemisphere of your choosing.

Lastly, Post # 60 is a Galapagos tortoise. The Galapagos islands are a part of Ecuador.
