What treats/gifts do you give your pets?
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 02:11 PM by mvd
I give my dog Reba Meaty-Bone cookies and cheese bones. She'll just take nylon bones and toys as possessions - meaning she'll ignore them mostly. I won't give Reba raw-hide bones.

Any other ideas for older dogs?

1. I give the cats tartar control treats
I think it really does help their teeth and gives them something to do while they're sitting on my lap or on the sofa.

2. I give my dogs milk bones. They love them.
I do give them other treats, but you don't give yours raw-hide.

4. Hi, proud patriot!
I have Milk-bones, too. Reba seems to prefer the Meaty-bones - I'm sure because of the meat taste. I think I got Reba spoiled. :hi:

5. My dog will only eat the expensive soft, chewy treats.
And she loves pig ear strips. She gets a new toy just about every week. She doesn't like those hard rubber ones, but the soft squeaky toys that she rips up in a couple of days.

6. I give StirFry (my cat) a few
shrimp treats from time to time. He hears the tube rattle and he'll come running no matter what he's been up to. I used to get him toys from time to time, but he show's little interest in most of them. He's happier playing in paper bags and fiercely attacking his arch-enemy 'string.'

7. What about pig's ears
Dogs I know go nuts for them

Mostly we give the cat "Pounce" for coming in when she's called or willing submitting to claw-trimming without too much crying.

They work like a charm - half the fun is throwing them through the bannisters down the steps, and her flying after them. She loves the sound of the jar being shaken.

We reserve them for reinforcement purposes.

9. My dogs love pig ears
but they aren't so good for the dogs...too high a fat content. Mine get raw whole turkey necks about once a month.

As for the cats, they aren't much for treats unless it comes off our plate...a few flakes of fresh fish, a bit of steak, Cotton loves corn flakes. OH yes, we have 2 CATS that will steal Pupperoni out of the dogs' mouths. They only get it about twice a year but bring out the bag and those 2 cats will line up right with the dogs for their share.

8. Big beef bones from the butcher
My dogs love to get the marrow out of them (then I discard them). Also peanut butter cog biscuits. As far as an older dog goes, I used to make mine some homemade biscuits that weren't so hard to chew. No raw hide - too easy to choke.

10. Tarter control treats and yogurt for the cat
The dog gets the last bite of whatever treat Havocdad gives himself plus meat scraps and yogurt with his dog chow. He loves his great big NylaBones and will stand them all on end in the center of doorways or around the edge of the rug in the living room just for kicks and jiggles while I am in the shower.

I figure if he had about 60 of them, he would build Bone Hinge.
