I'm trying not to be a pain in the a$$, but why, oh why does my daughter
have to play her stereo directly above my head and stomp around to it??? Eeek! Can't she see I'm trying to concentrate here?

I'm really not wanting to be screaming, shouting, "turn that damned thing off" Mom, but the bass is so...so...bassy on this particular song.

2. can she adjust the bass?
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 08:46 AM by MissMillie
I had a neighbor who didn't play his music particularly loud, but the had the bass set on super high. Used to drive me NUTS!

on edit: maybe she needs some headphones w/ a long cord....

3. I don't know if this will work with your daughter, but
I have been told to teach my cat to stay off stuff by squirting him with a water gun. I haven't done that yet, since I can't stand the thought of annoying my precious kitty, but maybe you could try it with your daughter. Just throw the door open and squirt her until she stops dancing. Then turn down the stereo. If she does it again, squirt her until she makes the connection between dancing and the water gun.

Hope this helps.

I'm a hopeless smart ass. I hope this comes across OK on the Internet.

6. Well, you are her mother. Why don't you tell her to turn it down or take
it away from her? Sorry if that sounds brusk, but my parents managed to raise a sociopath--they refused to correct my sister and now she is headed down the road to a miserable life.

30. Not trying to turn it into a flame war.
When I was growing up, I would never have dared turn the radio up to the point where my parents could hear it, much less have it drive them crazy. I would have been grounded for it, and so would my stepbrothers, since we all got punished as a package deal. Sister had different rules, as stepmother wanted little girls. Strict, yes. Too strict. But simply "turn it down or lose it" is not that strict.

to me, have never gotten into trouble at school and have managed to get good grades. Turn it down or lose it (and she's lost it) is strict enough for me.

If you ask nicely, I'm sure she wouldn't mind turning it down a tad.
What about when you go for lunch? Is she staying home?
If so, tell her she can blast it all she wants for the time you're gone.

29. LOL! 52 times.
That's a tough situation with how to handle it. I was always guilty of playing my music too loud and my folks just said "Lower it" and I would get pissed but I would just lower it. As long as I could keep listening to my music, I didn't mind that I had to turn it down.

Geez, if they took my radio away I would totally turn it down the next time they asked.

Geez, what kind of child are you raising????!!!!!!:D

16. Hrm. Interesting.
I grew up with 4 brothers in a small flat in San Francisco's North Beach. My dad set marks in ink on the stereo between which volumes we were permited to play the equipment. Anything below was consider a waste of the money and energy necessary to run the stereo and anything above was a nuisance to the household and the neighbourhood. Violators were quietly fined from our allowance.

There was grumbling, but very few repeat violations.

18. MrG did something like that. He carved a mark on the stereo.
She attempts to "push it" all the time by moving it up in miniscule increments. The punishment here is saying "bye" to the stereo until further notice. Funny how parenting styles can be so close. :hi:

go into the CD player and figure out what she was playing. Go get that CD, and play it loudly when she gets home. play it in the car, bop around and dance to it, learn the words. she'll hate it. And make sure, if you ever pick her up with her friends? play the song and sing along. She'll be playing soft jazz before you know it.

repeat with every other song she plays too loudly. nothing is worse than having your parents like your music/toys.

This worked for my mother last year, she had kids in her class (high school) who would try to get away with their iPods during assemblies, lectures and the like. Then I bought her one. Nothing makes something less cool than your teacher using it.
