MIAMI -- There was some real monkey business going on in a South Florida home when authorities showed up to make a drug arrest.
A tipster told agents of possible drug activity at the home and warned them that there were maniacal monkeys in its backyard. Police found marijuana in the home and four spider monkeys being kept within illegal conditions.
One person said those conditions can lead to bigger problems.
"Unsafe housing is generally their biggest problem. As far as the housing, the cages aren't safe enough and they escape into the environment and we have a troop of little monkeys living somewhere," commented Skip Trubey, Miami Fish and Wildlife Commission.
The expert said spider monkeys are particularly dangerous because of their big teeth and ability to use them.
