Bar Sells $135 Cocktail
<snip>

The loveliest street in Paris is also one of the most expensive cocktails in Chicago.

It will cost you $135 to drink a Champs-Elysees at Le Passage, a Rush Street lounge.

Made with Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac, Grand Marnier, orange juice and sour mix, it's served in a crystal cognac glass rimmed with powdered sugar.

And you get to keep the glass.

The bar may sell only one Champs-Elysees a month, says spokeswoman Jen Hansen.

"People are spending $575 on a bottle of Champagne here, so it's not out of character for someone to spend this much ," Hansen said.

In this ever-growing uber-cocktail culture, the humble shot has given way to flights of super-premium vodkas and tequilas, bartenders are now called "mixologists" and pricey drinks with exotic additions like lychee and pomegranate juice are making Cosmopolitans seem dowdy.

Line the rim of it with elmer's glue and shredded wheat, give it a hip hop name and sell it to these rich goons. I'd call it "2nd Avenue Shitstorm."

It's like they LOOK for things to waste money on.

3. I won a $100 bottle of wine yesterday
It was a raffle prize at a B2B "customer appreciation" event.

What am I gonna do with a $100 bottle of wine? I usually drink Coors Light. Now I have to get a rack to keep it in.

19. I was joking at the meeting yesterday
that I was going to have to find a curb in the *nice* part of town to drink it. Does this bottle need some kind of special tool to open it? I can't get it unscrewed. :silly:

6. Damn, sounds like they're ruining some great cognac
Remy Martin is some wonderfully great, though expensive stuff. But here they go having to ruin it with sour mix and what not. Sorry, not for me.

I mean sour mix? What self respecting high-priced bar would use that?

Although €100 doesn't sound that expensive. I'm pretty sure that I have seen more expensive drinks - don't ask me who buys them.

22. I could tell you
I've served quite a few of them in my day. Scotch and cognac mostly. $135 is on actually the lower end of the scale.

It's weird, some things here are cheaper than at home, and others are crazy expensive...and people will pay whatever for something they want, it seems.

NEW YORK - Drinkers might want to keep a clear head when ordering a martini at New York’s historic Algonquin Hotel or they might pay $10,000 for that cold sip.

The landmark hotel, where famed wit Dorothy Parker and fellow literary lights at the Round Table imbibed, offers a $10,000 martini, complete with a loose diamond at the bottom.

You do get to keep the diamond, though...
