Your pet peeves...
I have a pet peeve when it comes to people who are eating off of plates and use their forks like a rake and it makes that GODAWFUL SCRAPING NOISE!! Screeeeppe!! :shiver: :cringe:

Also people who chew with their mouths open and who insist on talking with food in their mouths. My mom is really guilty of this and I do it on occasion when my sinuses are acting up. But ugh!! Who wants to see what you're chewing up?!

So what are your pet peeves? Share them here.

Dee

say "our neighbors, you the (whisper)black(whisper) ones..."

god, that irritates me. Why whisper it? if they're black, they're black. Some people do this even if they're being complimentary "Jim, you know, our (whisper)black(whisper) coworker did a great job today!"

I've even had and african american woman do that to me when i didn't know which michelle she was referring to: "you know, the (whisper)black(whisper) michelle".

wtf?

14. Biggest two: People who keep screaming kids in public, and drivers who...
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 01:23 PM by youspeakmylanguage
...don't use their turn signals.

As for the first point, my anger rises depending on the environment - I get less angry at a parent who refused to remove their kid from a grocery store or department store, while I get much more angry when they refuse to remove them from a restaurant or movie theater.

I could go on for a while, and have in these forums in the past.

Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 01:10 PM by youspeakmylanguage
...but when they began screaming their heads off and disrupting other people around them, then they need to be removed from the store or restaurant or theater.

And no, I don't have a problem with kids themselves when they're supervised. I completely blame the idiot parents.

I got into a "discussion" with a mom DUer who stated she didn't have an ounce of concern for anyone around her when her kid started screaming. She stated that it wasn't right to "give in" to the kid by even acknowledging the tantrum. Therefore her parenting strategy trumped whatever concern she had for any other people around her, regardless of where she was or what everyone was doing. It made my blood boil.

23. That's not a strategy that has been proven to be an effective
parenting technique. I am VERY concerned about other people and their level of comfort, but sometimes I AM trying to do something and it's just not working and it's not always possible to stop grocery shopping with a full cart and walk out of the store.

I don't personally have any friends who would just ignore their child in hopes that they will be quiet which may be why I misunderstood. mea culpa.

24. You missed some pretty good flaming a few weeks ago...
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 01:32 PM by youspeakmylanguage
...there were a few mothers that insisted that the only way to effectively stop a kid from throwing tantrums was to ignore them completely. Then they acted as though we were advocating child abuse when some of us stepped up and asked what the people around them thought of that parenting strategy.

I also brought up a personal incident in which a big event was being held outside of the bar where I work on the weekends (I'm a doorman/bouncer). Parents were pissed at me because I wouldn't let them bring their kids into our club to use the bathrooms (which obviously weren't public), even though there were people in there who had been drinking all day and screaming profanity, there was broken glass on the floor, the music was so loud I have to wear industrial-strength earplugs, etc. There were porta-johns outside with reasonable lines. All of this I conveyed to everyone on the thread, yet one poster accused me of forcing children to piss their pants so I wouldn't be "inconvenienced". The same person stated I had no grounds to think that if a kid were cut on glass or had an eardrum shattered by a speaker that I would be held legally liable.

That set off some fireworks that weren't resolved until the "ignore" feature was used.

47. Women who use lip pencils.
I can't understand why an older woman would draw her lips in and make the lip outline twice the size of her real lips and then fill in the empty area with lipstick. Jesus Christ (next door neighbor) it makes you look like a bloody clown.

I mean this lady put her picture up in the laundry room and she was kissing Mayor Daley. She has her lips puckered up like a fish and you and you can see the pencil lines and the lipstick that is filled in so that it looks like her lips haven't gotten smaller with age.

I wouldn't say anything but she is one of the rudest witches around. "Stop drawing your lips in it looks bad"
