Are apples bad for dogs?

I have heard the seeds are not particularly good for their digestive tracts. Anyone heard this?

my dog would always eat the whole apple and spit out the stem and seeds! i ask my vet about fruits and veggies and he said it was better for them then a lot of the "doggie snacks" they sell in the stores

2. apple seeds have cyanide in them

so they aren't good for any mammal really. If your dog will eat apple, it will give him/her fibre. But you want to give small amounts, and only if you are trying to break constipation.

Probably about one or two a week. I think I heard the cyanide thing too. I can't imagine it's ernough to hurt her.

4. Apple Addict

My dog is an apple addict.

She's a 106lb. Bernese Mountain Dog, and is normally very gentle. However, if I'm eating an apple she will try to knock me down to get it, and if I won't give her some, she barks her fool head off for at least twenty minutes after it's gone. It's crazy. It's the only time she acts like that.

We try not to give her too many (maybe four a year), because they make her very, very gassy. I've never seen a dog that loves apples so much.

6. Dude, dogs will eat *anything*

including other dogs' shit. I doubt there's much in an apple that can hurt a dog. The only human food I know of that you're not supposed to give to a dog is chocolate.

8. My dog loves apples and she does not eat the seeds.

I think she can smell that the seeds are not wholesome and so she usually does'nt eat them.

Grapes are also not good for your dog.

There's a list there of things dogs shouldn't eat.

Apples are on the list, because SOME breeds have difficulty with the seeds and skins. Not all though.

The two big no-no's are grapes and onions. Both because there is a sugar in those that dogs do not properly digest. The metabolites are harmful poisons, as a result.

My dog eats most any fruit. The vet concurs that it's good for him to eat them, as long as we don't notice any gastric distress. If he does get sick or diarrhea, or something, we just won't give him that anymore.

Also, remember the bigger the dog, the more likely they can ingest, safely, anything we humans can.
