Andrew Vachss has a new novel out. Any fans?

Since NightTrain's banning, I suspect I'm the only Vachss fan left on the boards. Regardless, Vachss has a new one, kinda noir, set in 1959 so not part of the Burke series. Two of the jacket blurbs compare it to Red Harvest, which is a good thing if he can carry it off. It's called Two Trains Running; I'm only a few pages in but it at least starts off well. When I get into it well and truly, I'll probably be disappearing for a few days.:)

1. Read a lot of his stuff about ten years ago

but haven't kept up. Very gritty and harsh, but he's a very good writer. His stuff rings true, though.

2. You probably checked out at the right time. The Burke books, while still

very good, are getting increasingly silly. I tend to think of them as Burke vs. the World Crime League. (Forgive gratuitous Buckaroo Banzai reference.) The last one, or maybe the one before that, actually hung on the proposition that TEENAGERS like MOVIES. "Wow, Burke, they have this thing called the IMDb!" I exaggerate a bit, but not much. I still read every one, mind you, but if he keeps this up, I'll be throwing him over once and for all for Carl Hiassen. Assuming the Hammett homage doesn't work of course.
