3. "Buy war bonds", "Was that trip necessary?"
and some recycling ones, "Grow a Victory Garden", etc.

These were all world war II.

And of course, the stuff asking the people to make actual sacrifices - like not using more gas than they need, recycling all their scrap metal, being careful with tires, food rationing, etc.

4. America, love it or leave it
That was Vietnam.

Are you just asking for war slogans, as opposed to anti-war slogans?

19. "Don't you know there's a war on?"
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 05:16 PM by CBHagman
They tell me that was a biggie during World War II, along with "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." The emphasis was clearly on sacrifice and frugality. What a contrast to the current approach to war.

On edit: I once worked with an Englishwoman who was a teen/young woman during the '50s, when the British were still rationing everything. She told me it was a big deal to have a new dress. Again, I can't even imagine how most Americans nowadays would respond to that.

I remember that during the '60s some of us kids in elementary school would go about flashing the peace sign and saying, "Peace, brother!" We though we were cool. :eyes:

And Joan Baez STILL cringes about the "Girls say yes to boys who say no" poster. (i.e., conscientious objectors are going to get some)
