2. I believe it

After canvassing last fall in an effort to reach "undecided" (aka "moderate", "independent", etc.) voters, my own experience has proven the whole idea of "moderates" being these wise, thoughtful individuals to be a myth. Sure, there are intelligent people that follow politics who are moderates because they genuinely fall on the conservative side of the spectrum 50-percent of the time and the liberal side of the spectrum 50-percent of the time. But more often than not, moderates or undecideds tend to be either too apathetic or too clueless to know what's going on or too concerned about being seen as "extreme" to actually support something. Both extremes have their nuts, but I also believe they have the bulk of people who are educated about and follow politics.
