Have to start a short-term temp job at Home Depot tomorrow.
How do you leave a temp job prematurely if you get a better temp job or a permanent one, without straining relationships? Is there a way?

1. Good for you!!!
I think you could very easily tell the temp agency that you got a better offer, or a permanent job. Maybe with the better offer, they will match it for you.

3. What if it happens in the middle of a job?
I have to take care of myself first, I just don't want to feel like I am reneging. But it could be an issue, especially if the Health Sciences job comes through.

13. I think temp agencies are used to it.
They know that they are a 'temporary' stop between careers.

Good luck.

2. Just be honest.
They will understand your leaving for a better and especially a permanent job. If they don't--that's their failure.

4. I think that temp agencies usually expect it
The temp agency that my company uses will even help temps get a different temp assignment if they are unhappy with their current one.
Is this a specialized job requiring specific skills or is it something that mny adults could do? If it is the latter, they shouldn't be upset at all as long as you tell them as soon as possible and don't just not show up one day.

5. The latter.
I might get a temp job that will pay me more and last longer, and then I could get that job at Health Sciences.

8. Don't worry about it then
If it is a somewhat popular temp agency, they'll have someone to replace you right away. Just tell them as soon as you get the other job. They'll only be upset if you are a no show, no call.

6. Be honest and give them as much notice as possible.
Maybe have the temp agency keep a ready list of alternates.

Unless you're a contract employee, 'at will' is at the descretion of either party. They can dump you if they get a better employee, and you can dump them if you get a better employer.

10. The CU job hasn't been decided.
I believe the interview went well, but it will be a couple of weeks before they decide.

I guess this temp job is until they do. I wish you the best on getting the CU position. :)
