1. It's hard to say
they are all so good. The original 4 played off each other so well, I can't pick a favorite

4. Agree.
The show would not have been what it was without all the characters. I am a fan of M.A.S.H. I watch it nightly. I have my favorites, ie, Hawkeye and BJ and of course Radar, but without the whole entourage, the show is incomplete.

9. Yes, it was an ensemble show
but Archie was the main cog.

3. I vote for Edith
she was in many ways the heart of that show. Mike was a great sounding board liberal but he also had alot of flaws like when he thought that Gloria intellectually good enough to share an evening with him and another college educated friend.

7. Archie was the best of an ensemble of great characters.
Carroll O'Connor had such a great array of facial expressions, mocking tones in his voice, etc that he added wonderful 'extras' to his character.
