I lost one of my dearest friends in the world today...
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 08:39 PM by mcscajun
...he left this world about ten days ago, but I only got the call today from the other side of the country.

Oddest thing: I came home right after work, noticed the message light blinking, ignored it, and went off to the Y. On the way home, I was thinking about him and how I hadn't spoken to him in a while, and I really should call him. Then I get home and listen to the message that tells me he's gone...suddenly, of a heart attack. It's taken me two hours and one long phone call with another friend to get to the point I'm not constantly crying.

He'd just turned 50 earlier this year, was a vegetarian, an acting coach, and had a marvelous long-term committed relationship with his life partner. He'd been in two films (only one of which ever saw the light of day, and it was a very small part) and never really 'broke through', but he was doing what he loved.

No matter the time that passed or the distance between us, whenever we did talk, it was like we just picked up the conversation from yesterday.

He was my rock in hard times and was there to celebrate a very high point of mine about 13 years ago; we had so many good times together, and I'm going to miss him so very, very much.

He's the first friend I've ever had to mourn. Later this month I'll be flying out west to attend his memorial. I cannot believe this.

1. I am so sorry for your loss...
It's such a shock when things happen...

When you thought of your friend, maybe it was because
he was thinking of you.

7. That's terrible.
Sorry that it went down like it did. Hearing bad news is always bad but sometimes circumstances make it even worse.

Take care.

15. Thanks again, everyone...
...I used to wonder about the value of condolences from online "strangers". I get it now...and everyone of you was a help last night.

16. I'm so sorry

I've lost a lot of people in my life. But this is the way I see it: We are all born with a heart. As we live we give pieces of our heart to the people we love and in return they give us a piece of their's If we are lucky, we don't die with our own hearts but rather with a sort of patchwork quilt of all the hearts of the people we loved and who loved us. And so, when they go, they still live inside us.

I know it's a stupid metaphor and I know it won't give you any comfort in your time of grief. So, I'll just say I'm sorry.

Khash.
