I need to go to bed since I have a morning appoitment! I hate dentists and this is my far the most invasive dentist thing I have ever had done (I didn't even get my wisdom teeth in so I didn't have to get them out).

But the suck won't end there! I can't eat "hard, crunchy, sticky or chewy food" for ten days! You know hard it is to define whether a food is one of those things or not? Especially when you are afraid that it may misalign your teeth with every bite or pull your teeth out? Egad!

A dentist once told me, because I was so nervous, that he should have prescribed me a valium to take 45 minutes before the procedure. I don't hate dentists, but the drilling sound and feeling freaks me out.

4. I've done this several times. It's really not a big deal, I promise.

It's just a more intensive cleaning. Your gums may bother you, but not past the first day. And I can't remember a special diet, sounds more like for an extraction, to me. All I had to do was rinse with warm salt water for the first 24 hours. And well before 24 hours was up, I'd long forgotten about it...

Good luck and hang in there! I know that some people are more worried about dentist appointments than others. I really think it's a matter of finding a good dentist and one that you trust. Mine's excellent and I trust her, so going to the dentist is no big deal for me, even though I've often had root planing, probably because I smoke. I last did it in April, I think, and it was neither painful nor memorable. The most uncomfortable part, for me, was the Novocaine shot. After that, it's all downhill. Just relax and you'll be fine. 9. It turns out that "there is no reason I needed it done."

The dentist that was there this spring told me that I needed it done and I was going to wait until my wife got this new dental insurance throgh work (which turned out, didn't cover it at the amounts we thought the new insurance would) and so that is why I waited until now. I made the appointment a couple of weeks ago and went in today and the new dentist said that he looked at my chart and said that there is no reason why I needed it... that my "pocket depth" was only at the worst 4's and they don't do it until they are 6's amd 7's. He said that the other dentist had been very, very "major treatment happy" and that he would be happy to get another dentist look if I had any questions... he showed me x-rays, pictures, etc. and did a regular cleaning and as he said, "this saves you a lot of money, too." So I am happy.

It isn't that bad. You will be numbed up real good and afterward, you will probably get some good pain pills (at least I did).

Man, they didn't give me any pain pills. And I didn't need any either.

My husband just had his teeth done Monday and he complained last night that they hurt. I was teasing him. I guess I will have to tell him I'm sorry now.

6. I pity you as I pity myself when I go to dentist.

I have been going to the dentist for 65 years and have all my own teeth but each trip puts me more in a funk than ever. It comes right after going to a doctor and pumping my own gas.

7. No big deal

I have had my entire mouth done in the last 6 months. It's really kind of cool. Your teeth will feel so clean afterwards and your smile will be that much brighter.

The alternative is false teeth. I'll take the scaling and planing. :)

10. Am having same done in a week!

And it's being done in four sessions. Have been told that while in there cleaning will be following up with a small dose of some sort of antibiotic that will actually help my gums heal and the pockets to can end up healing as well and not being so deep. Also, I have a standing order of penicillin VK because it seems I am prone to small gum infection after such deep cleanings.

Good Luck! And if you have deep pockets, ask about the antibiotic that can be put in them to help with the healing :)

11. Had my wisdom teeth pulled about 5 years ago

and I absolutley hated having that special diet. I had cravings for cheeseburgers for two weeks and I couldn't have any.

Also puree'd Chef Boyardee ravioli and Spaghettio's was not particularily appetizing either.

And then there was the syringe thing that you had to use to squirt water in to clean them out after eating. Ick!!

I'm glad I don't have to do that.
