Taking kid to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today. |
|
Yep-I called in to work (first day off in a few weeks!). My daughter and I are going to see a movie. Anything I should be worried about in the movie? Any scary parts or suggestive language (think about a five year old and what they would think). We'll see it either way but I'd like a heads up for certain scenes. She scares easy and she repeats everything she hears.

it's a little deeper and creepier than the first , only because they delve into willie's childhood a bit.
It's also hippy dippy pshychodelic .
I enjoyed it ...

4. She wanted to see Sky High |
|
but I steered her to Charlie. I've been saving for a month to take her and I'm getting excited.

2. Saw it last night and parts of it would be scary for a 5 year-old, I think |
|
The PG-Disclaimer before UK screenings suggests that kids under 8 might find it disturbing.
Depp's Wonka is a very nasty piece of work. And the little one will probably run a mile the next time you suggest taking her to feed the squirrels ...

6. Might be good that she runs away from squirrels. |
|
Our squirrels are wild here and she tries to catch them all the time. She loves bizarre but she does get scared easy so I'll be careful. We'll take walks when it overwhelms her.

7. I hope she loves it too! |

She loves the Gene Wilder version-even the "freak-out" scene!

No one scene in particular, but they may or may not be disturbed by it.
Really though - there's absolutely nothing that will exactly scar your kid for life in it. I wouldn't worry.

The only other option was Sky High and I don't think I could have made it through that movie (Kelly Preston's in that one). Of course they aren't showing March of the Penguins around here or else that would have been our first choice.

Most kids in our theater were about 8 or 10 -ish. I don't think kids younger would "get" the Willie "snarkiness" in this version.

Then again, I'm her mother. She's grown up w/ snarkiness on a day-to-day basis.

11. If shes seen the original, i would definately reccomend taking her to |
|
see the remake. There is nothing that i can think of that would be offensive or scary, except maybe the squirrels. I think Depp plays a great Wonka, although overall I preferred the original. Hope she enjoys!

We can't afford to go to a movie very often. I usually have to save the money from a few checks to take her so movie day (because we save money by going to the matinee) is always a big treat. And she loves the original-she has it at home and we have to watch it all the time.
