Scariest New Vehicle Trend: Stick Family Window Decals
If the pissing Calvin isn't bad enough, it seems the newest rage on the road are these obnoxiously bourgeois/Republican/fake family values-promoting rear window stickers which depict Dad/Mom/the gender-specific allotment of children/pets. :puke:

WHY? Why should we give a shit? Do I really need the exact breakdown of your precious nuclear family unit displayed for all drivers to see? Will it help me keep score as I plow your vehicle into the nearest utility pole? Here's a clue assholes: NOBODY GIVES A FUCK about your "wholesome" phonily homogenous enforced conformist glop of DNA you call your family. What a stupid fucking trend.

For the record, I come from a 'typical' all-American nuclear family, and we traveled on the road too. But my parents were cool. There was no way in hell they would fuck up the back window of a car with this tripe.

It's hopelessly white. May this trend suffer my eternal enmity, much like Calvin kneeling at the cross, or pissing on the name of Michael Moore (yes, I have seen that one too).

Fuck fake white Republicans who fetishize the family.

1. It's a socal thing
and I usually see it on the cars of Hispanics.

But one memorable time the "family" represented on the back window was 2 women and a dog!

:D

4. It's nationwide
I first spotted it on a van in Utah 2 years ago, and you can't get any whiter than a Mormon family. Plenty in AZ too. The ones I have seen in SoCal are on Lexus SUV's and the like. WASPs. If the hispanic community has adopted this trend, shame on them. They should realize stickers will NOT reinforce or strengthen longstanding cultural values of home and family.

You traditional-Christian-family-hater.

I don't understand at all, realy, why people would put any stickers on their windows, except safety inspection, national park parking, etc., necessary ones.

I don't get it at all.

But then, so many Americans find self-worth only through their cars, because their lives are pathetic wastes so they can only find self-value in possessions, and only then when they are better than someone else's, so it doesn't surprise me that so many people feel the need to do so.

I saw TWO vehicles yesterday pairing up the stick family with the W-astika! (eternal thanks to SOteric for that name).

I think some reality is in order. Dad beating Mom, while he is holding a bottle of scotch in one hand. The kids fighting, and the dog pooping.

As for that ad you're showing, the only "powerful message" I see is: I AM A FUCKING MORAN.

56. It sucks because the creator of Calvin and Hobbes...
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 02:12 PM by youspeakmylanguage
..., Bill Waterson, sacrificed millions of dollars in merchandising revenues because he didn't want to exploit his comic strip characters commercially. Haven't you ever wondered why you can't buy a stuffed Hobbes, or a Calvin coffee mug? It's because Waterson wanted his comic strips to remain unscathed by commercial connotations and he had to fight like hell to keep his syndicate from forcing him to do it. Imagine that - an artist fights his distributor for the right NOT to make money.

Instead, a bunch of pirating crooked f*cks printed up a bunch of bootleg t-shirts and stickers that have reduced Calvin's image to a tasteless cliche - piss on you and and whatever symbol you identify with.

Waterson has retired into voluntary and complete obscurity, but if I were him I'd take whatever money I had left from the strip syndication and hire lawyers and private investigators to find out who exactly prints up those stickers and then sue their sorry asses to kingdom come.

Yeah, those are unnecessarily precious.

I am glad people have families, take pride in them, and hopefully are doing a good job raising their kids. But why must their vehicle serve as a billboard for this concept? There are PLENTY of great families with worthy accomplishments who do not have some deep-seated need to promote their family as some kind of logo. 99% of the people they encounter on the roads are STRANGERS and DO NOT give a Zomby's ass. Save it for the emails to Grandma! She is the ONE person who DOES give a shit.

I feel this way about bumper stickers in general, even ones that are on our side.

70. I'm not a look-at-me! kind of person
and don't put stickers on my car, so I don't understand it. I think that's the kind of people who put stickers like that on their car. They are vomit inducing. Great rant

71. Ah, fuck those wimpy stick figures.
I'm gonna have murals painted on our car which depict our family doing familyish things like having a picnic or reading a book to our daughter in bed. Or perhaps get a trailer hitch and haul around a 10 foot tall statue of the 3 of us working on a jigsaw puzzle. It is imperative that everyone knows we're a family.

I didn't know what to think about that one.

73. They're all over the place here.
Most of the time you will see something like:

a cheerleader's pom pom or megaphone with the name of the team and
BRITTANY under it.

Then next to it, or on the other side, a big soccer ball with RYAN under that.

Stuff like that.

Eh. I honestly don't even notice them anymore. Yeah, they're silly, but whatever. They seem far more innocuous than "YOU CAN'T BE CHRISTIAN AND A DEMOCRAT" which is a bumper sticker I actually saw.

Compared to that the stick figure ones are not anything I prefer to care or worry about.

74. Ugh, glad I've missed out on those so far
Frighteningly cheesy! Seems like a kind of yuppie/suburbanite thing which may be why they haven't reached my more depressed, backward part of the country yet. We do have our share of "Support our Troops" ribbon, "W"astikas, and "Marriage = man + woman" (stick figures) bumper stickers, though...
