So should I worry about the future of the company I work for?
Just heard one of the owners complaining about a customer who had ticked him off. "I don't care how much he was going to pay, he can shove it up his ass?" This was over a minor thing, btw, and no, the company is not doing so well that it can turn away business.

Sigh.

1. Hm...
Companies can get themselves in a real bind over doing too much for the customer as well as too little. Its hard to tell.

2. I wonder about owners
Mine decided he needed to go fishing today--and this is the busiest season in the pest control business. He didn't go to any of his appointments yesterday, either-I only found out second hand. How long before customers get mad and go someplace else? I'm not sure, but I'm looking for other employment.

5. How long? Not long.
Depends on how much competition there is, I guess.
I think you're smart to be looking around.

3. You should worry about the company to the same degree that
they worry about your future. In most cases, that won't be very much.

4. I worry a lot about my company
It is not a small business but it is one location and privately owned. I know more than is helpful for my own morale working there. There are some serious problems there, things that I would do differently if it were up to me and would make things better if I could. The dictators run the show though.
I don't know why I am worried though. In a way, it would be beneficial to me to have the company close. I am unhappy there and want another job. I seem to have trouble getting a better job. I also have troubles when it comes to parallel or lower jobs. They either don't want me because they are suspicious about why I want to leave my current position or they paying poorly. I feel pressure not to take a lower paying job than I have now. If I lost my job, although we would face financial troubles by lower pay, I would not feel personally responsible for our situation as I would if I accepted a lower paying job right now.
I would feel bad for everyone else of course, but for me personally, it might be a good thing. Am I a bad person for looking at things this way.
