What would you do... spilling red wine on a white wall in a rental?

This is a disaster! I have, in three places. have red wine spilled on my walls! I live in a rental apartment! I've tried cleaning these spots with cleanser, 0xy-clean, muscle grease and whatever! None has seem to work. Today, I bought some sample paint and found it to be just too dark of center! What should I do? Contacting the landlord and asking him what paint he uses has been a thought. What do you think?

Someone told me that works on carpet. Or try the Mr. Clean Magic spot remover- I got marker off of my mom's walls with that. Good luck

Anyway, after reading about how Ohio families have to deal with marine deaths, I think my problems are pretty small. I grew up in north-eastern Ohio. That's home to me, no matter where I now live. I came out here to Washington state to escape prosecution for belonging to a sexual minority.

5. Find something removable that the painters slopped over...

Like a switch or outlet plate, or a register grill. Then take that to the store where they "computer match" paint, and get a quart. My daughter did that when she threw the phone at the wall and punched a hole in it. Got it spackled and painted before I came home from work. Would have NEVER known if she hadn't gotten a case of the guilties and ratted herself out....

Get a can of "KILZ", which is pigmented shellac and prime the stains with it to keep it from coming through the finish coat.

Lot of work to try and get back the "damage deposit" that no landlord ever gives back, renter's rights laws concerning "normal wear and tear" notwithstanding.

seriously, as a former landlord, I would appreciate when my tenants contacted me when they did a boo-boo. If you were to phone me and ask how to match paint, and tell me the truth about why you were doing it, I'd be impressed; it woult tell me that you were just as interested in the place looking good as I am.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Not your responsibility. It's obviously the responsibility of the wine maker, the paint maker, the company that made your wine glasses, or the landlord.

No scrubbing necessary...I just sprayed it on and the stain (which had been there for about 3 weeks) disappeared.

17. It's not THAT good a story.

I was "entertaining" in my hot tub and thought I'd open another bottle of wine. The cork broke. I tried the corkscrew again to get the bottom half of the cork (still lodged in the neck of the bottle) out. The following events transpired simultaneously:

1) The corkscrew pushed the remainder of the cork into the bottle.

2) Wine shot out of the bottle, drenching me and my immediate surroundings (and the ceiling).

3) My guest walked into the kitchen to ask what was taking so long.


I don't know which was better, the look on her face or on mine...she swears mine was hysterical.

22. the landlord should be happy to provide either a can of touch up paint,

or at least tell you the color and brand they used. They should be happy you want to fix it, rather than duck and run when the lease is up. They will save money on the labor.

Most landlords I have known were estatic when I asked for touch up paint to cover the spackle I used to fill nail holes when I moved out.

24. I hate to be the one to tell you, but you have only one solution.

Select one or two personal effects from the apartment and place them in a climate controlled chamber 26 - 27.5 degrees Celsius under a pure oxygen atmosphere containing less than 10% humidity. Regular (monthly exposure to UV light will help to some extent.)

Everything else, I'm afraid must be destroyed. It is best to use a bulldozer for economic reasons, however to lower legal liability, I recommend that all of the operators work in protected isolation suits having independent air supplies. You will probably need to notify the neighbors - if you are in an apartment building to similarly prepare themselves. I recommend that you be well armed when you go to discuss the matter.

Some demolition teams like to use explosives. Check with local authorities to see if this is approved. Also see if any wood, some of which may be contaminated by wine residues, can be burned on site or if it can't whether disposal in a hazardous waste facility will be required. You may need to place the debris in steel drums.

I would definitely hire a lawyer and also a lobbyist. If your congressperson is a republican you should be able to bribe him after attending a prayer breakfast with him.

Do not photograph anything. This pictures could be used against you in legal proceedings.

Follow these easy steps and you should not have to worry much more about the stains.

25. Finish it off with more red wine to even it out.

Swear up and down it's an eco-friendly paint job assuming you are allowed to paint your walls...

Use whitening toothpaste if the walls are gypsum (Sheetrock). Also works wonders for pin holes and nail holes. Of course, paint over it after it settles in and dries.

Otherwise, maybe call Shermin Williams or some pro paint store and just ask for advice. That might work.

I asked the manager for some touch-up paint for the spots and he gladly gave me two whole quarts! My walls are now wine free! I never thought red wine would do this! What a mess that was... and now it's gone! :woohoo: :yourock:

29. Straight bleach

Put it in a spray bottle and repeat use until it come out. I remember a little problem I had 30+ years ago. I was fermenting in the utility room - and had a little explosion of sorts. Clorox took care of the evidence.
