Has anyone ever cried reading "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein?
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 12:04 AM by lizzieforkerry
I was reading it to my kids today and just started bawling. It made me very sad and I felt sorry for my kids for having to grow up under the Bu$h regime. I don't really know why the book made me think of that but it is a very good book.

Edited for bad spelling!

1. Um, pretty much every time.
I'm a softie. Even for trees.

2. The kid in the book is a prick
I wish the tree had fallen on him.

3. Yeah, I think I kind of associated him with Bu$h and America was the tree.

I think that was why I was crying so hard. When he is done destroying us he will just sit and rest.

4. It is a big joke at our house
I can't read The giving Tree or The Littlest Angel without bawling.

6. My ten year old read it, and I asked him to explain....
He says you give, and give, and give some more. And when you finally think you have nothing more to give, you give the one thing you've been giving all along - love.

Interesting, my son is a giver so he doesn't see any bad or evil in the story.
