Some people really do get upset for nothing
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 01:34 AM by Jamastiene
sometimes. Case in point, someone having to renew their license going into a total panic attack to the point of hugging the porcelain throne over it. Such a wuss was scared shitless to go to the DMV. Can you believe that? <pppth> Some people...

:sarcasm:

It was me, btw. I had a shit fit worrying over it. I had my license renewed today. To the kind folks at DU who reassured me and gave me the great tips and pointers to get through it. My hat's off to you. Thank you. You were right. It was no big deal.

Details:
Bad couple of incidents years ago with a hateful employee of DMV here really tainted my view of the DMV here in town. Well, that hateful woman wasn't there. A real nice black lady soothed me all the way through the process today. I had to do the eye test thing where they check your vision and I had to tell the nice lady what 12 signs meant. I doubled up and screwed up on one of them and she said everyone did to calm me down when I gasped in fright. After that, I posed for <get this> the best license picture I have ever had taken. I'm in shock. I got to pick between four designs. One was Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. One was the old timey airplane (I still say both NC and Ohio should share the credit for that first flight thingy). One was the shape of NC on a map. And I forgot what the other one was, because I didn't really see anything of note on it. I chose the plane. The lighthouse is cool and all (they moved it back like 50 feet to keep it from washing away into the Atlantic a couple of years ago, I think). I have no concrete reason why I didn't choose the "map" version except an incident that happened to a friend of mine from New York who moved here and lived here long enough to get a license from NC and traveled back north for a family visit. Push came to shove, he said the guy was giving him a hard time for being "from the south". I don't know if that's true or what really happened, but maybe staying away from "state pride" might not hurt until NC improves enough to be proud of it. I can't help it. Any state that would elect Jessie Helms(R) not once but many times forever and ever needs improvement to me. Now, we are stuck with Robin Hayes(R)because apparently the majority like him here. I voted Bowles(D) for the record... I've met Hayes though. Had to shake his hand at graduation in May and pretend my gag reflex wasn't going haywire. Yuck. He seemed polite, but not very bright when it comes to his political views. He also upset tons of people here recently. Something to do with CAFTA. He kept saying he was against it wholeheartedly, then voted for it. Typical. Yet, very few have called him wishy washy or flip flopper or much of anything. Any Democrat who ever did that wouldn't ever hear the last of it. Yet, he gets by with it. Wonder why? Oh, yeah, he is a right winger, after all...

Aside from thanking everyone and getting a gibe in against Jessie Helms and Robin Hayes, the main point of this post was for a little humor tonight. We can never get enough humor. We need this to laugh our way through the nightmare known as Bush...

Edit: I found a boo boo and fixed it. Sorry.

1. Don't feel bad
Took my neice to the DMV for the test to get her license. I was so freaked I had to lean against a wall cuz my knees were shaking. I have no idea what that was all about. My neice was cool as a cucumber until we got in the car for the ride home. She was driving all over the road and nearly the curbs!

All renewals have been consternating. It's nuts and I don't know why but it looks like I am not alone.

4. I don't know if it's the bad incidents with that one
woman or what with me. My aunt knows the woman I am talking about and says she's just a gruff/tough talking type woman, but that doesn't take my fear of her away. I heard her fuss at some poor guy years ago just cause he asked for clarification on a question he missed. I was waiting to take that same test. Ouch. My knees were knocking when she said my name. It was the closest non life threatening situation I have ever been in where I thought I might lose water accidentally, if you know what I mean. It's embarassing, but a true feeling for me.

5. congrats
the head of the MCV (formerly DMV) in my county is a Democrat who ran for County Clerk last year. Nicest guy in the world, and they say his is the best office in the state. I moved here last year and I lost my license this winter, so I've been there plenty of times, and since he knows me from the Dem County Committee he always comes out to talk to me.

I am not stressed out by the DMV at all anymore. The welfare board, that's another story.

7. If you remember the kind lady's name, write a letter to a department head
praising her and congratulating them on having such a fine, professional and helpful employee such as her. It will make you feel good and may be a nice thing for her day too.

We sometimes take the time, make the effort to write about someone who did not give decent service. Only fair to take the time to write and praise someone who made an extra effort to be decent, helpful and professional. Good to remind ourselves and each other that we are human beings besides being just a position.

Glad things went well for you. Now follow through and let her bosses know how helpful she was. It will make it an even better experience for you!
