Kootchstone came home from shelter with Giardia Lambia
They gave me meds for him but I hate meds. Anyone know about this?
An organism found in water that causes diarrhea. I have to keep him separated from Igamoo for a week which is not easy in 550 sq feet!
I found this on the internet. I would much prefer to treat him holistically.

BTW.There REAL names are Igamoo and Kootchstone but I will call them Iggy and Kootch!

1. Try this for now. I will see if I can find more
Garlic is supposed to be good for parasites.
Acidophillus capsules are excellent for diarrha. Acidophillus is available in any health food store. Dogs, cats and humans ca use it as well.

I wouldn't use meds on myself....Why would use them on him? He will be great on natural cure.

10. I appreciate your concern
But I am anti-meds for me and my furrbabies. The body should heal it self. Meds do more damage than good.

18. Giardia is an amoeba
that is amazingly strong. If you don't use the right meds to get rid of it, you're going to have severe dehydration and death on your hands before you ever find anything 'holistic' that will even begin to shift it.

Geez. Your attitude is why we now have 41 cases of rabies in this county so far this year...people don't want to dose their pets with that 'evil' rabies vaccine.

22. I don't understand anybody who says
'it's just diahrrea, why should I medicate it'? Giardia isn't just a stomach upset.

People can get giardia just as easily as animals. More easily, in fact when you're handling an infected animal and their output.

click parasites on the list of ailments...

Organic apple cider vinegar added to their food, while not a cure, is also a good supplement for future good health. 1 Tablespoon per feeding, mixed into their food.

that's what you ought to do.

get him to the vet.

12. Here's a link:
www.wolfcreekranch.net

Give him pedialyte in addition to any alternative medications, and check hydration periodically by pinching the skin on the back of his neck (if the skin stays up for any amount of time-he's dehydrated and that's dangerous). I use both holistic and traditional medications for myself and my pets-usually I try the holistic approach first, but sometimes that isn't enough. Diarrhea can and does kill animals. If the dehydration and diarrhea doesn't improve soon, or if his gums appear white, seek veterinary attention ASAP.

13. what kind of animal is kootch
a small or young animal should be getting the meds, i suppose the large or strong animal should survive just fine although not getting the meds does mean he will be sharing the giardia w. other pets and animals when given half a chance

screwing around w. unproven "holistic" remedies great way to kill smaller, vulnerable animals such as small birds, giardia is nothing to screw around w.

our pets are at our mercy, it is our responsibility to provide them the best care possible, you are not even saving $$$ by depriving yr pet of care since the vet already gave you the meds

let's see, give my pet the meds given by vet RX or give my pet unproven stuff i read abt on the internet

no choice there, i give my pet the best

sorry if my bluntness offends but i'm concerned for yr pets

14. They say the same for humans
you are entitled to your opinion but I see meds as more harmful than helpful. Would YOU go to the doctor for diarrhea? Intestinal problems are common and should heal them self with a little help holistically....sorry you beleive they are 'unproven'.
Obviously, I am NOT doing it because of $$$$$, I have the meds for free

20. yes i go to the doctor for life-threatening diarrhea
you're asking the wrong person

my husband almost died of a parasitic infection, the doctor saved him w. proper Rx medicine

another woman did die, she thought diarrhea was not serious, her organs shut down, she died

dystentery (another word for the diarrhea) killed more soldiers than every gun blasted in every war in human history

you are cheating yr pet of the best care for a cheap political point, doesn't sit right w. me

give the damn medicines

herbs do not cure giardia

15. Of all the ridiculous posts I have ever read....
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 04:18 PM by KzooDem
This one has to take the cake. A vet prescribes meds for FREE that could keep your cat from dying from diarreah and you want to putz around trying to cure it with herbs? If I lived in a 550sq ft. apt with a cat with diarreah I'd do whatever the vet suggested to stop the diarreah. Aside from that, diarreah can kill a living being in a relatively short period of time. Do you want your cat to live, or die because some root or extract didn't work?

Pick up the clue phone...it's RINGING.

Sometimes it isn't. This is one time that it seems like the right thing to do.

16. Give the cat his meds. Don't fool around.
If you want to treat yourself against doctor's orders, fine, but you have an obligation to your animals to do what the vet says. Don't mess around. Both of them could suffer for your ignorance. Sorry to be so blunt, but please take this seriously. Giardia is not easy for any animal to overcome without the proper treatment.

24. Holy shit, tell me that you gave the meds to your cat...
why mess with such a thing? It's one thing when YOU make the decision for yourself... but a professional vet treated your cat. Does Kootch agree with your holistic approach?
