Why does Foxy Brown need to be re-made?
I was perusing imdb, apparently it's been announced as a project for Halle Berry. I like Halle, but I LOVE Pam Grier as Foxy and really don't want to see anyone else attempt this role.

Sorry, Halle. Nothing personal. (Yeah--like she cares what I think...)

I was put off by the idea of a remake of Shaft originally, too. Then I found out it was Samuel Jackson and it didn't bother me at all. Saw the film, and was entertained. Just LOVE Samuel--he brings something cool to everything he does.

So, maybe I should be more 'open minded.' Halle's just not my favorite as an actress...(sorry to the Halle fans out there)...

1. Why does anything have to be remade?
Oh yeah, that's right- Hollywood's out of ideas, that's why. :)

3. Yeah--exactly! Pretty pathetic when you think of all
the remakes there have been in the last few years.

2. The remake of Shaft had the most busted women EVER....
I remember sitting there wondering whether John Singleton was so scarred by the Tyra relationship that he felt compelled to cast women who are decidedly NOT model material. It actually bothered me...but then I fugured he was going for the 'gritty realistic' thing.

Aside from that I thought the remake was pointless--although Sam Jackson is the coolest mofo on the planet and was a cooler Shaft than Rich Roundtree.

While it's great that they're remaking Foxy Brown from the perspective of Halle Berry, who probably isn't offered the kind of roles Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger are--even though she too has an Oscar..... I think it'll suck.

4. I know they won't but I wish they'd consider Pam Grier
She's still acting and Catwoman should prove to the world that Halle in skimpy clothes doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a hit movie.

5. Pam Grier still acts circles around Halle.
Don't get me wrong, the 'soul cinema'(as it is now called) was pretty cheesy. But just watching Pam and what she did with those cheesy roles in poorly done movies. I enjoy watching her so much more than I've ever enjoyed watching Halle's work.

Now if they said it was Angela Basset or an artist/actress of that caliber, I might tolerate it better. I probably still wouldn't see it, but I would know Angela could do something interesting with it...

6. A pure coincidence, but I watched "Friday Foster" earlier today...
...and Halle could not follow in Pam Grier's footsteps under ANY circumstances.

Halle is a good actress who may (or may not) become a great one someday ("Monster's Ball" was disturbing...that didn't make it great).

Pam is a living legend.

Therein lies the difference.

8. I love that movie--I'm so jealous!!
Whenever we've tried to rent it lately, it's already rented out.
:(

I agree with you, Pam has an ability and presence that escapes Halle.

Pam just ROCKS! :headbang:

9. I agree...
I named Angela Bassett, if they just HAD to make the movie (you know, gun to someone's head kind of thing). But short of that, I agree that NO ONE can fill Pam's shoes in any way shape or form.

10. at the risk of offending the tender sensilbilties of some on the board..
it would be nice if they could have found a black actor for the role. And no, it should not be remade. Also, Pam Grier.. my goodness, she is INCREDIBLE!!
