Is Jose Canseco really that stupid.
He's suing MLB for "forcing" him to take steroids.

9. Last time he made the talk show rounds, I saw him 3 times in one week
in a see-through black shirt. He cannot not tolerate not having his bicepts noticed... but MLB MADE him take those drugs :eyes:

What a wanker.

6. Let me see . . .
This aardvark-hole goes on 60 Minutes to talk about how great steroids are for athletes, and now he's claiming the MLB made him use them?

He should be named Mr. Bush's official adviser on physical fitness. He'd fit in well with the White House crowd.

11. Wait, are you describing Jose or Arnold, or both?
That's Arnold's routine, too. "I took steroids. I'm so ashamed. But they made me rich, famous and powerful, and brought many beautiful women to my bed. Don't take steroids. I don't regret it, but you would." (read that with an Arnold accent, of course).

19. Jose disgusts me more than Arnold in this respect
. . . and that's saying a lot.

At least Arnold knows better than to promote them and stopped taking them when they were outlawed in 1990 (he says, anyway).

I would have more respect for Arnold if he would say that he took them and that he would not have if he knew how they bad they could be for many who use them. He should be less equivocal about it.

Canseco, on the other hand, has said "go for it!" and that I can't respect at all. Suing MLB like this adds to twist of the bizarre of the whole thing.

7. Yeah, he's stupid, but it's not a stupid lawsuit
Not sure it will go far, and I'm not siding with him yet, but the argument is that MLB knew that some players were taking steroids and they turned a blind eye. Since steroids make a player play better, and since a player is paid for how well he plays, MLB, by not trying harder to prevent their use, in essence was paying players to take steroids, and punishing them if they didn't, through the pay scale.

The offsetting argument would be that a player has to take responsibility for himself, that MLB didn't openly approve of steroids, that the player's union was what blocked testing for steroids (so Canseco should sue them, instead), and that any player could have turned in anyone they knew to be using steroids, so the players were complicit in their use, too.

Frankly, I'd lean in favor of the players in this case if it were a lesser player than Canseco. Unless he's planning to give the money to charity or to make it a class action suit, he's going to have trouble getting sympathy.

My take. Not a lawyer.

10. Oh gee. It's like serial killer suing the police because they didn't
stop him after a first murder.

12. No, not at all like that.
His argument will be that MLB didn't stop the steroid use because they wanted it to happen, knowing that it would boost ratings because of better players. Or they wanted it to continue for some other reason.

The cops wouldn't want the serial killer to continue, plus they wouldn't be paying the serial killer more for continuing.

13. Not so fast. Canseco was the most honest before congress.
McGuire- "I take the fifth"
Sosa - "No habla englase"
Palmiero - "I have never taken steroids"
Shilling "I know nothing"

The only one that told the truth was Canseco and everyone else is the better man?

and in turn making me fat? She really forces it down my throat, ya know, by always saying "yes" when I ask, "May I please have more?" Then, after I say, "thank you, this is friggin awesome!" she says, "Your welcome." Think I have a case?

20. Casnseco cost me $50....
Back in 1989, when I was collecting baseball cards big time, I plunked down $5 for one single pack of 1987 Donruss baseball cards, the allure being the Jose Canseco Rookie Card, which was fethching $100 at the time.

I opened the pack in the store ( I had probably bought 20 previously, at least), and after combing through Cory Snyder, Orel Hershiser, etc., there was Jose.

The shop owner looked at me and said, "I'll give you $50 for that card right now."

"No way," I said. Hell, I wasn't stupid. Canseco was going to be the biggest thing to ever hit a baseball, period.

That $50, at the time, would've bought my wife an I a week's worth of groceries, it would've been four meals at Indra Restaurant.

Now, of course, it isn't worth the postage to send it from selling it on eBay.

Todd Marinovich rookie cards, anyone...?

22. He sure would have lasted longer
had he not had that idiotic one-inning pitching stint when he played for the Rangers. Destroyed his arm, and he was never the same.

Canseco was my hero when I was a kid. It's so sad to see what he has become.
