3. haven't seen it, but...
I know you're asking for a personal opinion, not one from a professional critic, but Roger Ebert's review is a fun read, regardless.

11. Roger basically gave the same review that the show
itself got when it first ran. Unlike the critics back then, I like the original show. I was hoping that a fan of the original series would review the movie.

Not many shows featured 'a 2 modern day Robin Hood' or left viewers with quotes like the following: 'A stranger is just a friend the Dukes haven't met yet.' -Uncle Jesse

I loved the show and was hoping the new movie would have the same feel good qualities.

23. I saw the original TV series. That's more than enough for anybody...
Making a big-screen version is just a ploy to get our money.

And I refuse to make Jessica Simpson any wealthier too.

9. CLassic Ebert.
The Dukes of Hazzard

BY ROGER EBERT / August 5, 2005

"The Dukes of Hazzard" is a comedy about two cousins who are closer'n brothers, and their car, which is smarter'n they are. It's a retread of a sitcom that ran from about 1979 to 1985, years during which I was able to find better ways to pass my time. Yes, it is still another TV program I have never ever seen. As this list grows, it provides more and more clues about why I am so smart and cheerful.

The movie stars Johnny Knoxville, from "Jackass," Seann William Scott, from "American Wedding," and Jessica Simpson, from Mars.

<snip>

Here is a lame-brained, outdated wheeze about a couple of good ol' boys who roar around the back roads of the South in the General Lee, their beloved 1969 Dodge Charger. As it happens, I also drove a 1969 Dodge Charger. You could have told them apart because mine did not have a Confederate flag painted on the roof.

<snip>

The movie has one offensive scene, alas, that doesn't belong in a contemporary comedy. Bo and Luke are involved in a mishap that causes their faces to be blackened with soot, and then, wouldn't you know, they drive into an African-American neighborhood, where their car is surrounded by ominous young men who are not amused by blackface, or by the Confederate flag painted on the car. I was hoping maybe the boyz n the hood would carjack the General, which would provide a fresh twist to the story, but no, the scene sinks into the mire of its own despond.

And, of course, Ebert plays on our team:

I can only wish that every single copy of this ridiculous crapfest of a movie is destroyed.

19. 40 year old redneck hippy here who saw the movie with 3 teenagers.....
okay, i am partial to willie nelson too, which is why i went to the movie, and i have to say there it was enjoyable . Not a deep movie, wasn't expecting that...but there was a lot in this movie I was glad it dealt with as fas as young people seeing it. THe main story was basically eminent domain (rich powerful guy trying to get family farms), an issue i see as important nowdays.
The kids also saw a scene that showed when you put a confederate flag on your car, you are going to get varied but heated reactions!!!!
As far as the daisy duke character...she does use her looks to her advantage , which works out pretty well with the cops, until she runs into a female cop.
There was also a joke about being so dumb you wouldn't be able to steal an election if your brother was the govenor.I personally found that pretty funny.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original series, although i always did like the car. Of corse what the car "did" in the movie was unrealistic, but that was the fun in it. It kind of made the drive home seem a little boring.
This movie was plain fun and entertaining and sometimes that is what movies should be.

21. It got a really positive review from Entertainment Weekly
But I'm sure that had nothing to do with the fact that both are Time Warner products.
