2. Depose
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 03:34 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
My full name is DeposeTheBoyKing, and I'm NOT an alcoholic (although I am addicted to macaroni and cheese, clementines and the Lounge)

On edit: I like that Left is Write described herself so nicely, so I'll tell a little more about myself:

I'm a white female of Irish-English-Scotch-Welsh-Cherokee (1/8) descent who was born and raised in Kansas. I lived in the Pittsburgh area for five years and just moved to the Dallas area in May of this year. I am 42 and will turn 43 on August 27th (yikes!)

I'm married to a wonderful Pakistani gentleman who is a psychiatrist at a large university hospital in Dallas. We have no children, but hope to adopt one day. We have three adorable cats, Montana, Simba and Morrissey.

I just graduated from law school in PA and took the Texas bar a couple of weeks ago. No job yet - am waiting for bar results.

I found DU when I saw the "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" link on Buzzflash a few years ago, and I can't live without it! I hate all things Republican and love all things Democratic. I long for the good old days of the Clinton Administration (although I can remember Nixon, and this FOOL currently squatting in the White House makes even Nixon look good!)

Agent Mike? Is this you again? Just in case,

I am a patriotic white American who's never been arrested, ever.

Edited because I am a patriotic white American who can't type, either.

4. Me.....
Blonde girl from Minnesota, of Norwegian heritage. Late 30s. Very late 30s. Okay, okay! That means 39! I admit it!

I'm a married former disk jockey who has also dabbled in insurance, and I spent the first seven years of my adult life working for a defense contractor in a corporate environment. I was a single mother from 1987 to 1997. I've been a stay-home mother since 1998.

Stereotypes that fit me as a SAHM include the facts that I live in a suburban subdivision, I drive a minivan, and I make scrapbooks.

I live in Idaho but do not subscribe to the conservative ideology of most of my neighbors.

I write, draw, read, work crossword puzzles, collect vintage and retro items (furniture, housewares, cookbooks, radios, stereos, games, and ephemera), indulge in nostalgia, race around with my kids, cook, bake, and dream of living back in my homeland.

My family includes a husband and three children (ages 18, 5, and 3). I am the third of five children ranging in age from 33 to 43. We are a closeknit family, though two of us live out of our homestate. We were recently all reunited for the first time in four years, and it was wonderful.

I'm a liberal. A born Democrat, if you will, raised in a home with parents who never voted anything but Democrat. My father spent 41 years as a computer programmer, tester, and systems analyst for a major DoD contractor. My mother left college after her sophomore year, when she married my father and went to work to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table while my father finished college. She was a stay home mother for our entire childhoods, though she did have her own successful home business for at least 15 years. I'm describing my parents because who I am is at least in part due to where I came from.

I'd tell you more, but the plumber I've been waiting for all day is on his/her way now.

I'll answer questions if you have them.

And I trust you'll tell us who you are too! :loveya:

9. I recently began work on one for my husband.
I did quite a bit of work on it while I was on vacation. My mother-in-law gave me stacks of photos and memorabilia from the time my husband was about two years old until just before he met me. I love doing this scrapbook because it's something slightly different. I have a bunch of my own memorabilia and photos too. I'm all caught up on family/kid albums, so these should be fun projects.

Same for me, with my school awards, etc. I've only made three albums: a vacation album, a 2000 calendar album and an "ABC" album for my sister to show my love and appreciation for her. I really enjoy it!

One of my sisters lives in Boise, she's a teacher's aide and my bro-in-law is a high school teacher and coach. I have two nieces there, one's 17 and one is 14. I wonder if our families know each other?

This sister of mine is totally cool. I have three other half-sisters who are bible-bangers, but they live in SoCal - go figure!

13. Ok Peggy just for you
I am a 38 year old man of mixed heritage but look Scandinavian - mostly Welsh, Jewish and Native American.

I'm gay and a sadomasochist (too much info perhaps, but it is important to how I've formed my views). I was married for 7 years to a lesbian (we both went into the marriage knowing that) and we have the most amazing daughter.

I worked as a psychotherapist for a number of years working primarily with sexual issues, educating people about AIDS and other STDs, working with victims of sexual abuse and rape. It wasn't what I had expected. I had to quit. I just couldn't take it anymore. I was never able to achieve the clinical distance that would let me go home and sleep at night.

In high school I was a National Merit scholar, I was the only person ever to graduate with a psych degree summa cum laude from my college, I was a member of psy chi - the national psych honour society. Although I no longer practice, I'm still a member of the APA. I have a coupe other degrees as well, endless student, me.

I grew up in Europe. I feel that that and being gay and disabled has given me an outsider's perspective. I consider that a good thing - vital and necessary.

In my few years, I not only worked as a psych, but to support my education I've managed a bookstore and worked in the sex industry (in porn and as a prostitute). I've learned a lot from those experiences. I hope .

Now, I write. I always have but now people are actually buying what I write. Somehow that actually makes it harder to do it.

I'm Wiccan, love animals, love plants, love the natural world in all it's beauty and wonder. I'm an avid reader. And most definitely a feminist.

And of course that's not all... :)

Khash.

16. I'm not sure I know the answer to that question
I can tell you my age, my sex, my likes and dislikes but I'm not sure if that's who I am.

I'm 44, female, from Vermont, living in the California Bay Area. I'm passionate about the things I believe in and I believe in things like social justice, equality, honesty, peace. I led my first protest when I was a junior in high school (made the front page of the local paper - my proudest moment).

I'm a mother of three, grandmother of three more. I love animals, Nature, music, reading, writing, baking and quilting. I also love running heavy equipment (I can run a backhoe, bucketloader, bulldozer, roller, farm tractor and I can back up a trailer with the best of them), building things and working on engines. I am a bundle of contradictions.

I live with my man of four years ("boyfriend" sounds stupid when you're as old as I am so I normally call him "hubby" though we're not married) and our spoiled rotten cat, Oops, and work retail, running a wine and liquor department at a local grocery store.

23. All you ever wanted to know about huskerlaw
but were afraid to ask...

I'm a light brown haired, blue-eyed native Nebraskan. I just turned 27. I have 3 college degrees: a BA in Psychology, a Masters, and a JD. I am in the middle of a really intense job search, which changes daily. I'm one of the lucky ones though, universities are actually courting me. In this job market, that's nearly a miracle.

I'm single and live in an apartment with my almost 2-year-old cat, Riley. I love college football (go Huskers!), reading, watching movies, and politics. Speaking of which, most of my family is ultra-conservative. So much so that they still love Bush. I've been a Democrat since I was 10 years old, when I loudly supported Michael Dukakis, much to my parents' dismay. My 88-year-old Grandma is a Democrat though, and she nurtured my liberal tendencies with stories about Franklin Roosevelt.

As you can see, I'm stuck in the 700 club, so feel free to ask me anything!

28. Okay
I'll try. ;)

I'm English/Irish/Scottish born in Boston. I was adopted within a family--my biological mother was my "aunt" all my life, as her brother was my adoptive dad. As I was never raised by other parents, I consider my heritage that of my adoptive parents. Both parents are from Canada--mom from Cape Breton, dad from Newfoundland.

I went to a sorta prestigious high school, for which you have to pass an entrance exam to get in. It is a public school, though, Girls' Latin School. It exists no longer except as Boston Latin Academy now, as it was integrated during my senior year there, many years ago. Supposedly I have a high IQ.......sometimes I wonder!!

I'm a TV addict. I love the entertainment industry and worked in it for 10 years when I lived in L.A. I found out, though, that it is extremely political, and was happy by the end of my time there to get out. I would rather work in either B.C. or Toronto in entertainment, as I found those groups to be refreshingly earnest and not as politically entwined.

I'm a writer, and have an unfinished novel that needs revisions, and many short stories. I'm also a photographer who intends to get working again on my projects. Too many of my avocations have been held up for quite some time with me dealing with RL.

Never married. No kids, except the four legged furry kind, which is quite enough, thank you! I'm completely devoted to them as well. I guess to some I could be equated to the "crazy cat lady" that kids in Anytown, USA refer to. Though I'm not a "collector" and have stopped at 6--though currently I have only 5, since I left my Amanda go last week from a major illness.

Politically, registered to vote the minute I turned 18--had to wait two more years, though, to vote for president, since it was one of those odd years. Without any hesitation, I registered as a Democrat. It helped growing up in Brookline, MA, after all, and being close to JFK's birthplace!

First election I voted in was 1976 for Jimmy Carter. In 1980, though, I voted for John Anderson. I thought Jimmy Carter was a noble man, but he didn't have the fire he needed to be president. And of course, I would never have voted for RRaygun. I don't remember who I supported (off-hand) in 1984, but in 1988, it was Michael Dukakis. And the way that I saw Dukakis being treated by the assholes on the right made me hate them all the more. I wish we had had a place like DU in 1988 to help us through that crap then.

Religiously, I'm more of an agnostic and atheist, but I do have some spiritual beliefs, particularly that our souls live on after death in some fashion. It's purely an energy existence to me, and I don't equate a "hereafter" with a belief in a deity. I do think that there are many things that appear to be "supernatural" that are just elements of science we haven't figured out yet.

I guess that's about it. Hope I didn't bore anyone too much. ;)

Currently working on getting my life and finances to walk upright again. Evolution is painful, and that's no theory.

35. O.K. here goes:
I'm a farm boy all growed up. Yup.

Our parents (I had three brothers and one sister) taught us how
to think, not what to think.

Growing up on a farm was an excellent way to learn how to
make thing happen in the short (120 days) growing season.

I was always fascinated with the mechanical contrivences that
helped us profit from agriculture. One of my grandfathers taught
me the basics of blacksmithing.

Save four years in the USAF, I have made a career from my ability
to fabricate metal objects and mechanical devices.

I am also the father to two young adults. I have been single since they were
3 and 4 years old. Daughter is now 20 and son is 22.

Any question?

P. S. I won blue ribbons for my chickens and photography at the county fair.

P.P.S. And I know how to use a sewing machine.

37. I'll try....
I'm a married, 26 yr old, caucasian female with Native American tendencies on both sides. (My great grandmother was full blood Cherokee Indian.) I grew up in a rigidly Republican atomosphere with Bible thumper beliefs. It took 6 years of marriage and a lousy election to wake me up. Have been a Democrat for about a year now, thanks to my hubby and his family...ALL Democrats.

I'm a mom to a wonderful 17 mth old son, future dem I hope, and was a SAHM until this month. I'll be continuing my college education this fall. Working on a nursing degree. Planning to specialize in neonatal care or maybe fertility issues. Took me 4 yrs to get pregnant w/ my son. Figure the experience will give me some great insight.

I tend to be very positive an outgoing. a little ray of sunshine. I live for the fall because of football season (GO HOGS!). I also love reading and writing, crosswords and scrapbooking.

I continue to discover new things about myself daily...I'm working on breaking out of the shell being my "father's/mother's daughter" that held me.

Anyway, hope that gives you some clue about me.:hi:

Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 12:09 AM by fleabert
early thirties, Texan born and bred, but I lived in OK, KS, and TX growing up. Adulthood has meant moving a lot as well- we've lived in TX, NY, OH, KY, and CA (we is myself, my husband of 5 years, and our chihuahua, Flea)

I am the most liberal person in my family since my grandmother/best friend passed away unexpectedly in Dec. of 2003; she encouraged and nurtured my progressive nature all my life, and I thank her every day for that.

I love to travel, I've been to 30+ states, Canada, Mexico, and Spain. I hope to visit each continent someday, as well as live overseas at some time as well. I am a bit OCD about certain things: knitting, folding sheets, how I eat candy, and my hatred of repetitive noises. (think of a ceiling fan that clicks every few seconds or so...it's like torture to me) the list goes on and on, but I think these make my point.

I am fostering two kittens now, down from four, and mama cat just needs to get her ass in the trap and she will be released back to her colony, a ho no more! (she got fixed after finishing nursing)

I hated school, so never liked/finished the college thing, but am now teacher's pet and an ace student in my classes for Massage Therapy! and no, I don't do free massages or 'happy-endings'! :-)

I am also a doula, non practicing lately, but still passionate about the birth field and hope to get going again soon. I have attended 8 births, all of them amazing. I am a huge breastfeeding and homebirth advocate.

As for DU, I have no idea how I landed here, but I love the lounge, pet threads, picture threads, LBN, and the occasional flamewar in GD. One lounge thread in particular gave me my self-prescribed nickname: Trashy!

I have 3 jobs, I do research protocols for an encyclopaedia, I teach writing and literature at the university level, and I spend my weekends gathering the collected oral history of 3 local indiginous tribes into written form.

My parents were born and raised in Italy. I was born in San Francisco, - in a very Italian neighbourhood of San Francisco. My education was entirely at the hands of Jesuits (*gasp!* Creationists!) until I entered college. I'm not exactly as dumb as a box of rocks.

I drink a lot of coffee. I drive too fast. I am a practicing Catholic.

42. Ok.
I'm 24 and I'm a born and bred Brooklyn girl. My ethnic makeup is fairly odd...I'm black with some Shawnee blood (not enough to be counted as a real member of the tribe or anything but I do have distant cousins who grew up on a rez). I have Romanichal ancestry on my father's side. There's a whole branch of my family tree that is just not discussed (it's sort of a shameful secret, sadly enough). So yeah...black, Indian and Rom throws most people for a loop. :P

I'm bi and into the goth scene. I'm also a Hellenic Wiccan. I'm also a huge dork and am fairly hardcore about anime, J-rock, comics, video games and D&D. I go to a lot of nerd conventions (always in full costume), write fanfiction, etc. I'm a starving writer wannabe, slaving away at crappy temp jobs to further my art. ;)

My avatar is a gothic Japanese drag queen who is one of my favorite musicians and happens to be my fashion idol. :P

44. One more thing...
11. Has stalker named Harley Quinn

I am HQ, queen of urban legend. I am 25 1/2 and hail from Indiana. I've never lived anywhere longer then 1 year since leaving home at 18. I stumbled onto DU from a link on Bartcop and have never looked back. I have an over-active imagination that led me into the arts and role-playing at an early age, and I have kept those interests to this day. Due to my grandmother's declining health, I have been roped back into the Ft Wayne area and currently play with computers for a living. (except today...I'm not feeling well.) I live in a crap apartment with a busted washing machine and three cats who I love more than anything on the planet.

HQ-more stories? just ask...

46. I am a born and raised Californian
I grew up in Oakland and Mill Valley, but I've also lived in Sacramento, Arcata, Redding, and my current town located in the boonies outside Fresno.

I got my degree in Soil Science, but I've been a birding fiend for a while, which got me a job as a biologist.

I'm all about birding. I started when I was 14, and I've been getting more and more fiendish since. I'm not that great at it, but I'm pretty good, and I enjoy it immensely. I'm a lister, and I've got 569 for the US and Canada. I'd like to hit 600 this year, and hopefully a trip to Maine in a couple weeks will get me closer to my goal.

I've got a pet snake, and in addition to birding my current hobbies are quilting and reading Harry Potter.

I've been a lifelong democrat, and I consider myself a strong environmentalist. I don't eat critters. I was a Deaniac (and still am!) I was there during the uh, Speech. That one. Ask me about it sometime.

That's me.

:hi:

47. I'll try
Minnesota born and raised, of mostly German ancestry with some Scots or Dutch on my dad's side (at least he thought so). 6'1" tall, glasses, in pretty good shape, full head of sandy hair (once had a pony tail 2/3 of the way to my butt). Decent looking at best but certainly not handsome.

First hero who wasn't a baseball player was Senator Robert Kennedy. Been a dedicated lefty ever since. Cried when Paul Wellstone died.

Dropped out of school at 16 to avoid the social pressures of high school. Bummed around a few years and decided to go to college in my early-mid 20s so I got a GED. Graduated summa from University of Minnesota in political science and went to law school at Harvard. Did well there but fell flat on my ass at every firm I ever worked for. Worked in a bookstore for five years after getting blackballed by my first post-law school employer. Never had a real date, much less a girlfriend, in my life. :( - but that's the way it goes, and one gets used to it after such a long time.

In therapy and on anti-depressants for the last year-plus. Diagnosed six months ago as Asperger's (very Asperger's - I am completely mind-blind and cannot read people at all), which explains a lot of the proceeding. Something of an intellectual snob - slightly nerdish, Spock-ish, cat-like personality. I have high standards for the people I choose to be friends with and am very loyal to my friends. Very socially awkward except with people I know well. Borderline brain-damaged around women I find attractive. Highly risk-averse.

Music lover (classical, jazz, rock - esp. progressive rock - , electronica, techno, chill), bass guitarist, keyboards player, audio writer/hobbyist, voracious reader, history buff, good cook, knowledgeable about wine and food, like movies, Harry Potter fanatic and soon to be cat-owner (I officially adopt my kitty on Saturday :)).

Lots of other stuff, too...

48. Hi, I'm Bunny!
:hi:

I am a nuclear physicist, and I sell cosmetics on the side. (The cosmetics business comes from my days as a top supermodel). I am independently wealthy, so I only work at my job for the betterment of mankind. I am respected and admired the world over. My Mom is proud of me, although she wishes I would call more often. So, how do you like me so far?
