5. Pop culture is starting to express that subliminally. |
|
System of a Down's "BYOB" is creeping onto the top 40 charts, and is a big name on the alternative charts with chants of anti-war and anti-Bush sentiments like:
"Why do they always send the poor?"
and
"Why don't presidents fight the war?"
Even my conservative friend likes the basis and the song itself.

My son really only listens to 70s rock though - but the messages are there as well...Pink Floyd, The Who, etc...

I listen to tons of that as well. But what I'm saying is, though we may not listen to the music itself, the crowd that does is hearing these pretty plain and simple ideas for the first time. And it's coming across better than a speech or a column would.

8. Popular music has always been an outlet for the prevailing frustrations |

Even today, with all the prepackaged commercialism, it is nice to see some good indie protest music.

9. My 18 yr old brother agrees |
|
with such sentiments as: "What the fuck is wrong with this dude?!" re Bush, and "Fuck this war bullshit."
As I listen proudly, having never guessed that my baby brother would be liberal like me. Always thought he'd take after his "nuke em all and let God sort em out" dad. Guess despite his mumblings of "Alright already" he actually listened to my rants. :D
Congrats on your smart son! :toast:
