3. I don't believe in ghosts, BUT...
My ex-girlfriend had a daughter who was a fraternal twin, but the boy was stillborn. She had an "imaginary friend" that was a boy born on the same day as her (she had no knowledge of the twin - she was about 5 or 6). I don't remember the name her "friend" had, but I was told about one time she was reading to the daughter and the girl went to the bathroom and came back with a flashlight, telling mom that "So-and-so told me you need this." And a couple of minutes later the power went out. No storm or anything. That's just creepy.

6. Welcome to DU!
The same thing happened with my Krups electric coffee grinder. It happened between 2 and 3 in the morning, when Mr. Heidi, The Wiley and Excellent Cat Named Ginger, and I, were asleep in bed. Weird.

7. Yes. Totally odd things
My mom and I lived in a trailer when I was younger and we always got weird "vibes" from the place.

At one point, things got palpatably odd. And when I say "palpatable" i mean you could FEEL this....something just around you all the time. It got so bad that I refused to get undressed with the lights on or take a shower with the lights on because I just had the FEELING that I was being watched.

I was especially hinked out by the mirrors in the house. We had a set of 4 small mirrors down the hallway and I would RUN down the hallway because I just had the feeling that if I looked in the mirror, I'd see something bad.

It quickly manifested itself from a 'feeling' to actions.

We'd be sitting in the house, in the winter, no breeze or windows opened. My mom had a set of glass wind chimes hanging in the living room and all of a sudden they would just start going crazy. Not "passing by creating a breeze" crazy, but WINDSTORM crazy. Then they would just STOP. No 'winding down'. Just STOP as suddenly as they started.

The lamp in the living room would turn on and off without human interference.

We had a dog at the time, and she was blind--born with no eyes. And she would sit on the arm of the couch and just growl and bear her teeth when the windchime/light thing would happen. She'd be so intense that she shook and drool. As soon as the 'thing' stopped, she'd calm down and be herself. While it was happening, you COULD NOT control this dog, and she was very pleasant at every other time.

I don't know what it was, but it freaked me out. I think there was a 2 week period where I didn't sleep for more than 15 minutes at a stretch because I was so fucking freaked out living in that place.

8. Yeah, I'm one of those people
who will swear up and down that I am a skeptic, but I cannot deny the feeling that there has been a ghost living with me my whole life and even moving from place to place with me. About a month ago, I was on the computer one night, had consumed no mind altering agents of any kind and I felt the heat AND pressure of a hand on my upper back right between the shoulder blades. It was comforting. Usually, finding the cabinet doors open less than a minute after I just shut all three of them is annoying at least and downright freaky at most. Otherwise, I am not always sure if they exist or not. I just know weird things happen everwhere I go and it is usually at night. At the home I grew up in the commode would flush a couple of times a night and no one in the house (living) had done it. Also, my cats look sometimes next to me while I am talking to them. They look at me and then they look like they are looking at another person standing next to me. That is so careeeeeepaay! I just hope the ghost(s) stay mostly friendly with only a little mischievousness. I can handle that. Maybe I could talk them into helping me out with some household chores. :D

11. I have felt a comforting feeling like that before
I thought I saw a ghost walk into my room and sit by my bed. It placed it's hand on me and I felt all warm and soothed. I don't know though. I may have been imagining some of it. It was too surreal.

12. I was laying in bed once
and I felt our dog, King, jump up on the bed, walk in a circle, and lay down by my feet.

About 2 minutes later, I went to pet him and there was no King there.

But there was an indentation in the bed as if something were laying there.

13. That night, I also
saw "something" shaped like a tall human being standing behind me about an hour before I felt that feeling. Oddly enough, I have a long history of not being able to decide if I believe in a God for real or not either, but the "something I think it was a humanlooking dude" looked like guy in the paintings that most people see as pictures of Jesus. Maybe some internal part of me wants a liberal deity to exist and save us from the evil of the jerks currently in charge... It was nice to feel that feeling though.

9. I have a ghost in my closet...
an old woman who used to live in my building was a child murderer. She drowned two kids in our pool. She lived in Romania out in the woods and her family eventually brought her here. Kids were disappearing in those woods and they suspected it was her. She was known as The Gingerbread Woman. I get seriously creeped out when I go in the pool. We used to have a hot tub but management took it out because weird things started happening. It would get either really hot or really cold on a moments notice. Rumor has it our complex is built on an Indian burial ground. Or it could be the Gingerbread Woman.

I don't know if it's her but something lives in my bedroom closet. I heard an old woman talking in there before. Several times. My younger brother first heard it. He was on the phone talking in my room and he kept hearing her. I went in there and she was yelling at him. Telling him to "Be quiet." It was fucked up. I sleep in with the closet closed at all times. I don't even play around. I'm not someone easily scared or anything either, but it's weird. I live by myself now too. Yup, now I'm up for a while longer.

15. The house is torn down now but...
there was an old house we used to play around as kids on a point of land.... one day when I ran around back I saw a woman "from another time" in the window.
Then she just faded away

I think he wanted to make sure my mom and I were okay before he moved on. He scared off a burglar once.

18. I've heard this about cats
When they suddenly stare at something in the air and you don't see anything, they're sensing a spirit nearby. Mine do it all the time; I wonder who they're seeing?

The day after my kitty Fergus died, I swear I smelled my MOTHER's perfume while I was lying in bed. Ferg died in 2003; my mother died in 1987. I never wear her perfume (Emeraude), as it's too strong for me. Very strange.

19. According to most people, my dads house is haunted.
Though most of it has been replaced in various remodels over time, his house dates back to the late 1800's when it was built by the first doctor in what was then a tiny farming community. There have always been stories by people in the house about sudden chills, things moving at the corner of your eyes, sounds of kids laughing, or barely heard conversations at the edge of your hearing range.

About 15 years ago we got a visit from the town historical society when they wanted to excavate part of his backyard. The historical society had all kinds of material from the doctor including his journals and ledgers which indicated that he frequently burned old medical equipment, body parts, and garbage in a makeshift pit crematoria behind the house. It turned out that the pool was dug at the site of the crematoria, but the excavation did turn up a ton of cool stuff from nearly a centuries worth of use.

What's disturbing to us was that, after going through his journal, we realized that more than 30 people died in the home...more than half of them children. Back then there was no doctors office, just a makeshift examination room where my dads dining room is today. When people were badly sick or injured, they were often brought to my dads house for examination. Most died in the examination room, but a several died upstairs in the "guest room" (my little sisters bedroom as I was growing up).

Creepy :scared:

For the record, I never personally saw or heard anything. I had a few odd experiences that others attributed to the ghosts, but I never personally experienced anything otherworldly. When my eldest sister was 15, on the other hand, she once came running out of the shower screaming and naked when a "cold hand" reached in and grabbed her breast. Make of that what you will

20. Lived with a "trickster" when I was little.
"He" would take the bread and return it 15 minutes to an hour later, but "his" favorite was changing the times on the clocks. The alarm clock would go off in the afternoon and I remember a few times my mom and I being late for school/work.

During my pre-teen years I lived with my grandmother. Her husband died in 1955 but 25 years later he was still here. I specifically remember him sitting behind us in a movie theater and my grandmother once saw his reflection in the plate glass while we were walking downtown. You just kind of got used to the noise and "odd" feelings.

I was relieved when we moved last fall. The "hand on my back" feeling didn't make it to the new place.
