anyone ever have their monitor act up, fry, whatever?
yesterday, the monitor for our home computer went on the fritz.
simiLar to a power surge, the moniter keeps turning off and on, in rapid-fire mode. there's no stopping it either, untiL i unpLug it.

i've never heard of that before. i tried unpLugging, and repLugging.
i even tried wacking the monitor as hard as i couLd.

doh!

i guess i need to go get a new monitor. x(

i certainLy can't have my nightLy routine aLtered much Longer.

1. Oh, yeah...mine made a loud popping noise when it gave up the ghost.
It was quite exciting, followed by rounds of my cursing.

4. The good thing is monitors are relatively inexpensive.
See if you can find a re-seller. We have a place here that sells refurbished monitors starting around $49.

5. Smack it harder.
It's probably protesting all the internet garbage that seems to be targeting us lately. Is it just me? Or has spyware, malware, etc. gotten out of control? I've worked on television sets before. It could be that an IC has chip burned out that is causing some other IC chip to reset over and over again. Or the on button could be gummed up. I could "go there" and make suggestive humorous comments about your nightly routine and the gummed up monitor idea, but I don't want to cause too much mischief this morning. My recipe for a last ditch effort to get it to behave. Smack it harder until it submits.

17. It does help sometimes to just smack it.
I know it works on vending machines too. Sometimes machinery just needs to be shown who's tha boss. We can't let it get too big for it's britches and take over and destroy us. Bwaaaahahaahaha. Besides, it's therapeutic in ways no psychologist would ever recommend nor could they ever fathom just how satisfying it can feel.

6. I've had two die on me
First one was a no-name 19" one, that for $225 back in 2000 had an excellent picture. But, within a year I began to notice that sometimes the picture would become a little "staticky" as though there were a ground fault or short. Within the next year it escalated into a picture that wouldn't steady, accompanied by the smell of ozone and an ominous buzzing. Right about then it got a one-way trip to the dumpster.

Second one was a 7-year-old Dell Trinitron 17" monitor that went with my wife's old computer. One moment it worked, the next it was sitting there making this pitiful little "eeeeep" noise every 15 seconds or so, like a dying gerbil. That one also had a great picture for its age and size.

To replace it, we now have this $80 17" StarLogic piece of trash that we bought from Office Max because we would have died from withdrawal without something to get us connected. It has a lower maximum resolution than the Dell, plus uncurable distortion in the corners and an image that refuses to give up a very slight tilt to the left (like * after a tequila binge). But at least the damn thing still works.

Oh to have a $2000 flat panel from Hell!

18. The Outer Limits and my monitor
Just yesterday something weird was going on with my monitor, too. It looked like the old black and white TV screen with the vertical hold out of whack. Then lots of static and pretty vertical lines of all colors.

Time for a new one I guess .
