I got Stephanie Miller back--YEAAAAGHHHHH!

I've been so miserable for the past few weeks, not so much because Stephanie Miller has spent a couple of them on vacation, but because I couldn't pick up her live stream at work anymore. I've had to download her podcasts at home (I can't access her web site or iTunes at work), make them into a Zip file, and upload them to my server, so I was always a day behind.

Well, Steph has put up an indpendent stream at her Web site at http://gundam.100.liquidviewer.net/sms . It's supposed to work with Windows Media player, but of course, it didn't for me at the office. But I have something called a VLC player which I use for DVDs. So I gave that a try--AND IT WORKS!!! The URL of the stream comes out mmsh://gundam100.liquidviewer.net/sms?MSWMExt=.asf . Well, gotta go--I'm coming, Stephanie!

which put it behind the anti-streaming firewall at my office.

Thanks to Winamp and alternative versions of QuickTime and WindowsMedia players, I haven't been totally helpless. I can listen to Thom Hartmann and check out the videos at Crooks and Liars.

Until two months ago, I listened to the AAR stream though an alternative RealMedia player--the firewall prevented me from getting to the AAR web page. But I can now use the REAL RealPlayer and can access the AAR site as well as CSPAN. I think it's due to someone here at the office--someone high enough up the ladder to put the squeeze on the IT department!

4. Yes-- with AAR gone, going with Steph live would be the smart move

instead of listening to her TWELVE HOURS LATER. And I'd say that even if it WASN'T true that I'm signing up with them next week! I live in the NYC area, so I can listen to AAR on my car radio.
