Teeth cleaning in 2 hours at wacko dentist's office

It's not quite as bad as "The Marathon Man," but I'm not sure I like this dental office. I went last week to get established (never went to a dentist's office where they refused to do a cleaning on the first visit; evidently the hygienist sets her own hours). They actually took my blood pressure - at the dentist's office! I found that odd. Then they took x-rays and informed me that I need two replacement crowns and SIX replacement fillings, all for a grand total of $2700. I THINK NOT!!!

I HATE those places. I went to 4 dentists before I found one that wasn't a credit dentist purely for cosmetics.

Try some more. It doesn't cost to change and find the best one.

2. It's funny - the dentist immediately announced the following:

"You have two wisdom teeth that need to come out." She later backed off and asked if they were causing me any pain (which they're not). I'm almost 43; apparently my wisdom teeth are coming in rather late. My policy is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

7. My evil hygenist is always telling my dentist to rip out my wisdom

teeth. I'm 43 also. Each time he always asks me, in front of her, Are they bothering you? And I say, No, and he says, We usually just leave them in now.

But every time, she's back at it! Yeesh.

15. wisdom teeth can push your other teeth around enought

to mess with your occlusion, which can cause TMJ. If they are coming in normally (straight up and down, not sideways or other types of wierd) AND you have plenty of room, then having them out isn't such a big deal.

But if they are growing in funny directions and you don't have much room back there, they can raise holy hell in your mouth.

Next time I see you I can show you how much one wisdom tooth moved the teeth on my lower right jaw.. in a very short period of time, too.

3. hahaha! they take the bp so they know how much they can overcharge you!

if you come in very high bp, they'll think twice before presenting you with an astronomical bill!

when i went hunting for a dentist in manhattan, the first one said i needed something like 3 crowns and 6 veneers. i didn't even bother asking how much that would cost.

i then went to another dentist (recommended by co-workers) who gave me a 100% clean bill of health. that's right, i needed NOTHING. he's been my dentist for 3 years and i haven't had a single problem during that time.

some dentist are just too far behind on their porche payments....

Or used to. Haven't noticed it lately. It actually caught my husband's hypertension, which we were unaware of.

9. Well, I badly need a teeth cleaning

I'm normally very good about having it done twice a year, but haven't been for a while because of finishing up law school, moving and taking the bar exam. I'm going today because I need a cleaning, but don't think I'll return. I stupidly gave them my records and x-rays from Pennsylvania last week; guess I'll have to get them back or have them forwarded to whatever dentist I choose next.

10. I just had my crown put on last week.

I have had 6 teeth worked on in the past 6 weeks. I racked up a couple of thousand dollars dental bill. But so what, theese are my teeth. They feel much better now. And I have another 4 teeth that need work. I do need braces too. Hopefully I will have them on by the end of the year.

This is a new dentist I am seeing and I am happy with him. The office is very hi-tech. So I get to see exactly what he is looking at. He will put this little camera into my mouth, snap a picture and show it to me on the monitor. I like being able to see what they are talking about.

I just thought I would say something good about dentists, since everyone else on this thread is kind of down on them. I guess I am just happy that my teeth finally feel better.

And A tip to keep your teeth clean after the cleaning, rinse your mouth out with peroxide before you brush your teeth. It is amazing how clean they will stay.

11. My dentist is just the opposite-I think he doesn't want to do

anything. I clearly see a cavity and he didn't say I need a filling, even though I was there just a month ago. WTF can cause him not to want to do anything?

I really don't feel comfortable with this office. I made an appointment at another office for tomorrow at 3:30.

13. I love my dentist, but I'm probably lucky

He's an old friend of the family. He's been treating me since I was 11 years old.

When I went through a severe clinical depression, I quit going for a long time (okay, about 9 years!).

I just went back for the first time a few weeks ago, prepared for the worst. And guess what? NO CAVITIES! I got a clean bill o' health!

I guess I was taking better care of myself than I thought.

14. No cleaning without being an existing patient in Calif.

That made me crazy because I have good teeth and most of my dental time is spent in the hygienist's chair. Before I commit to a new dentist I want to feel comfortable with the staff doing the cleaning. Fortunately I did find a hygienist I like. Now the old dentist has retired for all practical purposes and the young one thought he could just say "Crown! Crown! Crown!" and I'd go along with it. I'm looking for a new dentist.

I had an optometrist try to take my blood pressure once. I just said no. The optometrist is a professor and researcher so I suspect it was a surreptious way to collect data for a pet project.
