How loyal are you to your employer?
What would it take for you to leave your current position?

more money...better hours...more benefits...less travel?

1. more money
that's it...though if there was a lot of travel...I might have to pass.

(not generally a lot of travel in my field, though)

4. I would leave this job in a heartbeat
for just about any other job at this point. More money, having benefits at all, and a non-psychotic non-micro-managing boss would all be selling points for a new job.

I might just move far away and leave it for the hell of it, at this point.

I've been a loyal employee in all my other jobs, but this one...ugh.

doing research and working I put in eighty hours a week. He's a real jerk ..........

Hey wait a minute! I'm self-employed!

7. Bordering on obsequience:
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 10:12 AM by no_hypocrisy
I worked after hours without pay on a regular basis. I ran the office two weeks after I was hired while the boss went to Greece to check out the parents of the boy his daughter was dating in Israel (with me so far?). I even kept a nonpaying client out of jail during this time. One day, I was standing on a chair, filing in the top drawer. The cabinet was about to topple over, I pushed the drawer in, took a step backwards, fell, and tore my ACL 100% (a main ligament of the knee). The boss didn't offer to get me medical attention. I hobbled to the car and drove to the doctor by myself.

I was back the next day and the day after that (albeit truncated hours) to help with a closing. I was out 8 work days thereafter b/c of the knee. He replaced me (read, FIRED).

Moral: There is loyalty and then there is foolishness.

9. wow. ..
I'm still trying to figure out why you were hobbling around with a torn ACL! My boyfriend has done the same thing to both knees--it's no fun to say the least.

Are you ok now? I'm sorry you had to go through that. You're better off without that jackass (but you know that, of course).

11. Listen to this:
I was splayed on the floor, couldn't move the leg because of the ungodly pain. My boss came in and offered me a cold can of Coke to hold against it. Really! I shot back I needed whiskey ASAP. The fool thought I wanted to get drunk. All I needed was anesthesia in order to even sit up on the floor. With reluctance he broke the seal for his Chivas Regal and I took my 2 ounces of medicine. It took me 30 minutes to move to a chair in order to call for a doctor's appointment.

And yes, I could BARELY walk. I was sure my leg was going to collapse and I would fall and break something else. No cane, nada.

And (excuse the pun), here's the kicker: it was the left knee and I drove a stick shift 15 miles during rush hour (imagine how many times I had to depress the clutch) in the dark and the rain. Could it get any worse?

But, with physical therapy, Reiki, and no surgery, I have no pain and no discernable limp today.

And yes, it was severe karma that I had to be removed from that position. I wish I could have figured it out beforehand with an intact knee.

12. Ok that's just madness.
And what kind of selfish bastard hands you a can of coke as first aid? What kind of selfish bastard makes you drive yourself!! It's just unbelievable how inept and uncaring people can be sometimes.
I'm glad you're doing ok now and far away from that place.

Also happy to hear you're knee is ok. And with no surgery too. The boyfriend had surgery both times but didn't follow through all the way with his physical therapy so after 4 years he still can't bend his knees all the way.

15. Being loyal to my employers has gained me nothing
professionally, financially, or otherwise. I'm as far as I can go here, having to "share" a position with someone much less educated and much less experienced. The right job would have to have more growth potential for me as a person with more direct authority over the operation and greater financial rewards. There's something deep inside me that hates making wealth for a large organization and none for me.

office. I can be so tough on me, dammit! It's not fair that I can take the whole day off while me sits there slaving away. I would say I am not very loyal to me at all. :hi:

17. I was loyal to Toys R Us
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 11:16 AM by mutley_r_us
for nearly five years of my life. Through big layoffs every year, benefits cuts, staff cuts, useless raises (I got a whole $.10 raise my last year there, and I was one of the higher ones in the store), and so much more. We all did the job of 5 people in that store for crappy pay. I finally left when they transfered a Director to my store who proceeded to get rid of the core long-timers (people like me who could do literally everything such as unload trucks, big ticket pickup, assemble bikes, run the register, run the service desk, help customers, stock merchandise, etc) in the store just so he could bring in people from his old store.

DU parents: Please don't shop at Toys R Us unless you have to! They treat their employees like shit!

18. I guess it would be more money.
I have great benefits. Pay less than $100 a month for full medical coverage, dental insurance, eye care and life insurance. My hours are great -- 7 to 4. And I only have to travel less than 30 miles round trip. But the pay sucks.

I work part-time retail. Just started but I'm thinking that it's difficult to get promoted because of the emphasis that they put on soliciting credit-card accounts. I think you have to be able to do it to get promoted and I've been REALLY unsuccessful at it.

I'm still in school and not in a position in life where I *have* to work right now, so after I do a full 6 months (just to have a solid block of work time on my resume) then I may quit until next summer when I can look for a different type of job or internship.

The effort I put into my job is directly proportionate to the pay I recieve.

Of course, I'm also a temp, so I can get away with it.

If it works out well, I'll be hired. So far, so good (keep your fingers crossed for me).

I have to say, I LOVE this company. They've done everything right. They pay really well. Great hours, a fun, creative office, awesome benefits. If I get this job, I plan to stay for a while.
