Any EQ players being drawn back in?
I haven't played seriously in like 2 years, though I did do WoW for a couple months and tried EQ2 and GuildWars.

Anyway, they're doing a free 21 day promotional deal to try to get people back, and I did log in, but quickly got bored (i.e. in 2 minutes).

Still, I have to admit I kinda miss it.

Anyone else going back?

2. Never liked EQ, but I feel the same way about Diablo II.
Just can't get into it anymore. They screwed with one too many things in that last patch.

3. Still playing WoW, it is the game I always wanted.
The game evolves as you get higher lvl. Once you reach 60 then it shifts to getting armor sets. You can get up to an effective lvl 76.

6. Sounds good
It just didn't seem as rich to me as EQ, and it was kinda too fast paced. Of course one of my major EQ beefs was that it was too slow paced.

I guess some of us are just never happy.

4. The hardest I've EVER laughed at a computer monitor
Was the very first night I was playing EQ.

I had my little first level Wood Elf at that tree city area and I was wandering around the wilderness when I see this little Gnome just totally booking past me. I was like, "Whoa. That guy really needs to be somewhere." Then I turn around and see this huge pack of ape-like orcs chasing him.

It was the first "train" I ever saw and the whole scene just made me break down laughing.

Even when I became an established player and was grouping a lot my favorite part of the game was when something would go wrong and the whole group would just scatter in a panic, everyone screaming "Run!"

Sometimes I'd be laughing so hard I'd get killed.

EQ was a lot of fun back in the day. If I ever get a new PC I might pick it up again.

5. I know what you mean
I think EQ had just such a rich environment and so much versatility, and that's what made it interesting. The problem with all the spin-offs/competitors is that they hold your hand too much and the worlds are less interactive.

I used to love sitting in High Pass and just fish in the deep pools for hours. I guess that's kinda pathetic, but somehow that's one of the good memories.

I wish it had developed into more of a roleplaying game rather than just a powerlevel extravaganza, but I guess it was not to be.

7. It'll get me to play for the first time.
I've always been more of a DM'er, but I liked NWN and WoW and have always wondered about EQ. I just downloaded the game and will be trying it tonight (thank god for fiber, btw, that was a 1Gb+ download...it took nearly 15 minutes!)

8. Wow! 1Gb in 15 minutes?
Amazing!

I really, really wanted to get into NWN, but I just couldn't do it. Maybe there's still hope though. I wanna create a world for my players to play in, and I think NWN can do it. I just didn't have the patience to figure it out.

How tough is it?

9. Not tough, but time consuming.
Patience is something you NEED. Personally, I loved the game but never got into creating my own worlds. I did a few for the fun of it but the novelty wore off pretty quickly (and this is coming from someone who used to work for WEEKS perfecting Doom WAD's).

BTW, the secret to downloading 1GB quickly is to do it at work when everyone else is at lunch. We have a 45Mbit connection here, and I've personally seen download speeds as high as 4.1 megabytes per second. When you get this fast, you're really limited by the speed of the other guys connection :)

11. How about just learning to play NWN?
That would probably be the best place to start. I think I even upgraded my computer at the time to be able to play. I ran around for a while and didn't get into it. It was kinda more Diabloesque.

Hmmmm... Maybe I should try again.

12. The game itself is simple to learn.
NWN was the first of that genre that I ever played, and I think I had it down in about 10 minutes. Of course, I was also an avid role player when I was younger, so I already understood the concepts of mana, hit points, and the like. If you're completely new to the concept it could take a day or so to figure it all out.

10. I played EQ for six years ...
I was invited to be in the beta program (got a long history with MMOs) and loved the game from its original incarnation up to the second expansion pack. I was even a longstanding member of the guide program. Then came Luclin, and the feel of everything changed in such a way that I didn't really enjoy it anymore. The "character" that the game had was sacrificed in favor of realistic graphics and hardcore content that required huge guilds and twelve hours a day.

I stuck with EverQuest for years afterward out of loyalty, and because I got to play for free in return for my work with the guide program. However, when World of Warcraft came out, I was lured away and very much love that game!

13. That's pretty much exactly how I feel
Though WoW didn't suck me in quite as much as it did you.

Yeah, I think you're right on Luclin being when things started going downhill. I don't need the huge graphics, and I'm not a fan, at all, of the huge raids needing guilds and all the best gear in the world. In the end I wanted a game I could play for a couple hours here and there, and EQ was no longer it.

WoW, I don't know. I hate that you can't open doors.

14. Well ...
There are SOME doors you can open. If you're an engineer, you can even use bombs to blast them open! :D
