Please Help me Identify a Movie

Help me identify a 50's or 60's movie that depicts an actual carnival that develops at the site of an unfolding tragedy (I think a mine cave-in). The movie culminates with eventual death of the people involved as the Carnival-like atmosphere reaches a near frenzy. The trivialization of the tragedy and its particular effect on a family involved was part of the storyline.

DUn't leave me down. (You never have before!)

3. Try "Ace in the Hole"
I believe it is based on the plight of Floyd Collins who was trapped in a Kentucky coal mine.

5. It was...
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies.

A real movie that took place at a carnival - spoofed on MST3K.
