Poll question: How do I get my nine year old to sleep? |
|
She all revved up about going back to school tomorrow (OK, today at this point). She takes meds for anxiety, but it doesn't seem to be working tonight. It's 2 AM and she's still saying she can't sleep.

4. Benadryl perhaps....note |
|
although in children that can cause hyperactivity instead of the drowsy effect seen in adults. I've seen it first hand. Did a clinical rotation at the ER and they gave a kid benadryl b/c of a rash on his face. Within 30 minutes he was hanging from the ceiling and trying to start his own IV. Very freaky.
Got any ny-quil? hot milk? reefer?

8. No, just wishing she would sleep |
|
I killed the TV in the living room and switched to classical music. Maybe that will help. I didn't have it loud before, but who knows!

Many of the clients I work with sleep with their radios or TVs blaring. I can't understand how they can sleep like that, but they manage just fine. Apparently some people are able to sleep with loud noise, and some actually have difficulty sleeping if it is "too quiet". Go figure.

Drives me nuts. I think she finally just gave up the fight to stay awake.

Where the guys ran the shit out of those kids that he was baby sitting?
By the evening they were all tuckered out?
There you go.
Get 'em up and run them around the block

Really, I'll pass on that. She's been up since seven yesterday (now) morning.

16. I tell them to lay in bed and think about how much they want to stay awake |
|
No moving, no noise, just think about how much you want to stay up. Always worked for me as a kid.
