What is the best compliment you have received recently?
Mine: A coworker said; "You're what, 25-26?"

I'm going to be 37 in 12 days....

"You're still a liberal." I thought that was pretty nice. :)

(Who knows?) But tonight "Nighthawks" sounded better to me than "Lounge Lizards."

6. A woman asked me last week if my son was my younger brother.
She couldn't believe that I am going to be 40. My son is 11. She said, "Well you don't have a wrinkle on your face." I thought it was sweet of her.

18. That's wonderful
Those wrinkles will make you look old even if you're not. The fact that I only have a few very fine lines under my eyes may be why some people don't realize how old I am. I guess it's good I wasn't a big sun worshipper when I was younger.

17. Indeed it was
Especially since my birthday is coming up.

No matter how old I get I often feel like I'm just a teenager "playing grown-up". At the same time I've been bordering on my midlife crisis for a few years now, likely because the big 4-0 is so close. It's nice when someone actually mistakes me for 10 years younger than I am. It would be nicer if I actually was 10 years younger than I am.

I really had a deathwish kind of life going....
The general belief was I would be dead before I was 30....

So that's why the person said that to me after not having seen me for fifteen years.

After my diagnosis, one of my friends sent me a little card and said this.

This is a woman who volunteered for Dean with me, worked with me on the campaign down here, and attended the meetups I started.

I was pretty flattered!

23. Not recent but my best ever was that I'm a contradiction in terms
At least it appeals both to my vanity and eccentricity.

It was during the long vacation from university. I had been working in the same office for the whole time, on the last day one of the permanent employees asked if I was going to the pub with folk at lunch-time (as was traditional when somebody left). I responded that I was only a temp (who didn't do so). He replied that I was a long-term temp. I pointed out that this was a contradiction in terms. He simply said "that's how we like to think of you" - he was mostly an somewhat irritating person, but that made up for it.

29. Not a full blown compliment, but...
I did get carded a couple of days ago buying smokes for my husband. Before I handed over my ID, I asked the clerk how old she thought I was, and she said "Probably 23 or 24."

I'll be 30 in a few months. If this keeps up, I'll be a happy woman for a long, long time. :)

it helps that i have boyish good looks and some nice grey coming in on the sides. that way i can look distinguished and young

44. From my childhood through young adulthood I was always thought to be
several years older than my actual age. Then as I got to my mid twenties things began to shift a bit and my age was generally pegged correctly. Now, happily, people seem to be thinking me younger than I really am (though most don't guess a whole 10 years younger).

47. Several people over a very short period of time
told me they liked my writing. I write monstrous long emails to a friend of mine and sometimes on DU. I used to play the guitar to practice my creative expression. Lately, I've been enjoying writing not only music on the computer, but also stories, long emails, and opinion pieces, an awful lot lately. It seems like I have been feeling very inspired and creative lately.

Having my friend, my English teacher from last summer's English class, and then several people on DU say they liked reading my posts/emails/writing assignments made me feel good. I mean people have said they liked my guitar playing but there has been this cloud always hovering over that because of some of the comments made when I was younger. Whe I first played in front of people, a lot of them would say, "You are pretty good at playing guitar, for a girl.

It always made me wonder what difference it should make what sex the skin on my fingers is. Joan Jett said something about what difference it should make what the sex of the skin playing the guitar is one time too. She's my hero. I was happy to hear her say the same thing I was thinking. I guess the people who say "for a girl" have their reasons for feeling that way. I don't get it though.

I think he is 10 or 11 and the teacher in their English class was assigning them English names... the teacher gave him "Peter" and he said that he didn't want to be called Peter, he wanted to be called "Jeff" (questioning the teacher is a big no-no in China, too!)
